OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MARCH 22, 2025–Fastest qualifier from the trials, Turbulent, powered away right out of the gate to prove best in the $215,800 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity [G1] finals on Saturday at Remington Park.
Since her initial appearance in a training race on February 17, Turbulent has consistently demonstrated her speed, achieving the fastest times each time she is on the track. She recorded the fastest overall time of the day during her training race, the fastest qualifying time, and now the fastest time in the finals.
Roman Cruz piloted Turbulent to her gate-to-wire victory in 15.506 seconds clocking a 90 speed index. The post-time favorite’s 3/4-length victory over Old Habits New Tricks paid $3.40 to win.
Roman Cruz said, “She is so impressive. She just waits for the door to open and she’s gone. I knew it was going to be a hard race because the 8 (Old Habits New Tricks) was going to be beside me and I know that horse can push.”
“But if you leave her alone and don’t mess with her, she will do it. She will take you to the winner’s circle. All I can say is she is the best,” Cruz continued.
Old Habits New Tricks, ridden by Mario Delgado, was second best to his barnmate Turbulent. The runner-up outdueled Pretty Lil Poison, who placed third with Bryan Candanosa in the irons.
Dee Keener saddled stablemates Turbulent and Old Habits New Tricks for their owner 918 Bloodstock.
The $83,654 winner’s share of the 300-yard purse boosted Turbulent’s bankroll to $87,038 and improved her record to two wins from two starts. Alexia Willis bred the daughter of Painted Turnpike in Oklahoma out of Turbulence by Sf Royal Quick Flash.
Old Habits New Tricks has one win and one second from two starts and $40,349 in the bank. The son of leading first-year-sire of Paints San Lorenzo was bred in Oklahoma out of Expressions N Snow by Sm Country Snowman.
Trainer Matt Whitekiller bred, owns and trains third place finisher Pretty Lil Poison. The daughter of Painted Turnpike has yet break maiden from two starts with earnings of $24,848. The Oklahoma-bred filly is out of Miss Fly On Tac by Tac It Like A Man.
Pt Angel, Cardia Cowgirl, Slingshot Engaged, River Flower, Cuz Eyema Cowboy Baby and Turnpike Jammer complete the order of finish.
