OKLAHOMA CITY, OK\–APRIL 4, 2025–I Am Candy not only beat a horse that had won six of her first eight starts lifetime, Dezigner Jeanz, and another, Alliekat Dynasty, who had won six-of-nine starts at Remington Park, but broke the track record for 330 yards in the process.

The outstanding effort came in a race for older fillies and mares, most of which were stakes quality runners.

I Am Candy, a 4-year-old Oklahoma-bred mare under jockey Justine Klaiber, burst from the gate in the open allowance event at 330 yards and hit the finish line in :16.276 seconds, earning a 106 speed index over a sloppy/sealed track. The previous track record was :16.295 set by Apollitical Redflash on March 16, 2023.

Klaiber never let I Am Candy be headed by her competition although Alliekat Dynasty was flying on the outside like a bullet train after breaking in congestion from the gate. That 4-year-old mare was doing everything in her power to overcome the bad break, but never got better than a length behind the winner and that was at the finish.

I Am Candy was sent off at 5-1 odds while runner-up Alliekat Dynasty was the 2-1 betting favorite. Dezigner Jeanz (4-1) checked in third, another head back of Alliekat Dynasty.

I Am Candy is a bit of a horse for the course herself for trainer Eddie Lee “Bubba” Willis. It was her third win in only five tries over the Oklahoma City track surface. It was the second time she had won in three races at 330 yards.

She is the daughter of Jess Good Candy, who was quite the runner himself. Jess Good Candy retired as a winner of eight-of-eight races, including the Grade 1 All American Futurity in 2015, earning $2,014,703 in his career.

I Am Candy won $21,690 for this allowance victory from the $39,660 purse for owner PV Quarter Horse Farms of Ratliff City, Okla.

The mare, from the Red Storm Cat dam, Candy Cartels Cat, was bred by her owners. Her lifetime record improved to 12 starts, four wins, one second and one third. She is still looking for her first stakes win, although she beat a field that was extremely experienced with stakes victories.

Alliekat Dynasty is a multiple graded stakes winner, taking the Grade 2 Decketta Stakes in 2024 and the Grade 2 OHA Mystery Futurity at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla. in 2023.

Dezigner Jeans won the Remington Park Juvenile Stakes as a 2-year-old in 2023, ran second in the Grade 2 Evangeline Downs Futurity in Louisiana in 2023, and was third in the Grade 2 Decketta Stakes this season.

This score, by far, was the most impressive victory of I Am Candy’s career.

I Am Candy returned $12.80 to win, $7 to place and $4.40 to show. It was Klaiber’s first win of the meet, though she has ridden sparsely at Remington Park this spring, winning with only her 12th mount of the meet. Klaiber has regularly been the top female Quarter Horse rider in the country and at Remington Park.

Pulido Thursday Night Triple
Jockey Juan Pulido enjoyed a riding triple on Thursday. He scored with I Are A Cowgirl ($7.60 to win) in race two, Nota Pocahontas (Paint)($6.20) in race three and Little Sure Shot ($10.80) in race six. Pulido now has 12 wins for the season, six behind leading rider Franciso Calderon and his 18.

Remington Park racing continues Friday through Sunday, April 4-6. Friday racing is the first of two nights of trials for the $868,455 Remington Park Futurity, the finals are scheduled for Saturday, April 19.

The first race nightly is at 6pm with Sunday racing at 4pm. All times are Central.
