OKLAHOMA CITY OK–APRIL 19, 2025–A roar from the crowd arose above the pouring rain after a photo finish showed Jamies Sin Tacha had his nose in front at the finish to win the $868,455 Remington Park Futurity on Saturday night.
The Remington Park Futurity is for Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds who qualified for the 330-yard event over two nights of trials in early April.
There are some happy connections when your horse takes home the $347,382 first prize in a matter of :16.574 seconds, earning a 96 speed-index over the sloppy track. Jockey Christian Cardenas gave the 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding one final nudge that pushed the 3-1 third wagering favorite in the race to the finish a nose ahead of Illegal Cowgirl 123 (7-1).
It was the first win in this stakes for Cardenas, trainer James Gonzales III, and owner Miguel Vargas of Grand Prairie, Texas. Jamies Sin Tacha was bred in Oklahoma by Monty McNair.
The 2-1 top betting choice, Entice Me Ona Monday, tasted the losing side of racing for the first time in his career. That gelded son of Cyber Monday had won the fastest training race of the meet on Feb. 27, was then put in the trials for this futurity on April 4 and had the fastest time of all qualifiers for the final by a great distance.
He had a 103 speed-index in the trials and no other finalist broke 100. Those credentials didn’t matter on this night as the adage of “the sun doesn’t shine on the same dog every day,” applied here with Entice Me Ona Monday only managing a fourth-place finish.
On this night, there was no sun shining in any corner of Oklahoma with a stormy evening, but the spotlight shone bright on Jamies Sin Tacha. Cardenas battled with Illegal Cowgirl 123 every step of the way in this 330-yard race and it was Jamies Sin Tacha’s long nose that prevailed in the end.
Jamies Sin Tacha paid $8 to win, $4.60 to place and $3.40 to show.
It was only fitting that the 9-1 longshot Ima Bigg Flash surging into third place as lightning was seen in the distance. Following the top four to complete the order of finish were AJs Secret Cash (20-1) in fifth; Flying Joy 1 (2-1), the Oklahoma Futurity winner, sixth; Good Blue Candy (43-1) seventh; MM Rampage (15-1) eighth and Eyem D Prince (24-1) ninth. Maverykk was an early scratch from this race.
Jamies Sin Tacha remains undefeated after two starts and has an enormous wallet to show for it. He has earned $356,082 from his two successful attempts. Vargas purchased him for $15,000 from the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale last fall.
It was a hard-luck final for trainer Jason Olmstead, but his horses still showed a lot of talent. He qualified four horses to the final and they (Illegal Cowgirl 123, Entice Me Ona Monday, AJs Secret Cash and Good Blue Candy) ran second, fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively. Those four horses earned a total of $321,328.
Alejandro Cardona bred Illegal Cowgirl 123 in Oklahoma. The daughter of Flying Cowboy 123 was ridden by Armando Alvidrez for owner Tom Maher and has earnings of $156,412. She is out of the Favorite Cartel mare Illegal Favorite.
Trainer John Stinebaugh conditions third-place finisher Ima Bigg Flash for owner LS Racing Inc. Flashing My Pjs Partnership bred the son of Big Daddy Cartel in Oklahoma out of Flashing My Pjs by First Moonflash. He has earned $104,230 from her first two starts.
There is no live racing on Easter Sunday, April 20. Remington Park live racing resumes on a special makeup night of action on Wednesday, April 23 with first post time of 6pm-Central.
Entice Me Ona Monday, Ajs Secret Cash, Flying Joy 1, Good Blue Candy, Mm Rampage and Eyem D Prince complete the order of finish.
