EDMONTON, ALB–JUNE 14, 2025– Favored off her fastest qualifying time from the trials, Cervezas Fire, left no doubt about her promise to win in the $31,482 Sale Stakes Futurity at Century Mile on Saturday.
Ridden by jockey Ricardo Moreno, the two-year-old filly surged through the sloppy track for the win, crossing the finish line 1 1/4 lengths clear of her rivals in 15.791 seconds, good for a 90 speed index. The victory paid $4.30 on a $2.00 wager.
Trainer William Leech saddled Cervezas Fire for owner Jerry Stojan. The daughter of Cerveza Corona remains undefeated from two starts, with the $14,166 winner’s purse boosting her earnings to $17,252. Bred in Alberta by Charles G. Stojan, she is out of Getit Hot, by Walk Thru Fire.
While still searching for his maiden victory, Hez D Man broke sharply and held second in the mud for owners Commotion Creek Contracting and WT Ranches Ltd. The gelding, trained by Buckey Stockwell and ridden by Martin Ortiz, has now banked $9,250 from his first two starts. The son of leading second-year sire Uncle D was bred by Morgan Luhoff out of Ll Talitha, by Dealagame.
The battle for third ended in a dead heat between two Alberta-bred juveniles—One Tough Cerveza and She My Dulce Girl—both trained by Misael Moreno and each showing grit over the sloppy surface.
One Tough Cerveza, a son of Cerveza Corona, was ridden by Daniel Tavares. Out of Toughie, by Stel Corona, he was bred by Charles G. Stojan and is owned by Barry and Janice Sather.
She My Dulce Girl, a daughter of leading first-year-sire Dulce Sin Tacha, was ridden by Jesus Ambrocio Medina. Bred by Tami Mai and owned by Ralph Danard, she is out of Cash Cartel Patriot, by Jet Black Patriot.
Money Mouf placed fifth, Snow Boss in sixth, and O Sawyer rounded out the order of finish in eighth. Insta Bond was scratched.
