EDMONTON, ALB—JUNE 14, 2025—Under overcast skies and over a sloppy Century Mile surface, Miss Fancy Nancy surged in the final yards to win the $15,977(US) CTM Sprint Stakes by a narrow margin over Fired And Flight Club.

The 110-yard dash for three-year-olds and upward Quarter Horses was contested with a strong 20 mph tailwind aiding the sprinters down the straightaway.

Breaking from post 7, the Alberta-bred four-year-old filly Miss Fancy Nancy overcame an early bump at the break to drive forward under jockey Jesus Medina.

She stopped the timer in 6.994 seconds, earning a 94 speed index. The daughter of multiple stakes sire Big Lew out of Singles Cruise by Favorite Cartel was bred and is owned by Barry and Janice Sather and is trained by Misael Moreno. The victory earned her connections $8,351(US).

She entered the race off a victory in the CTM Princess Stakes on May 14 and has earned $84,546 in 18 career starts.

Second by only a half-length was multiple stakes winner Fired, a four-year-old gelding by Fly Thru the Fire out of Ruths Chris by Separatist, who finished strongly but was outkicked late.

Trained by William Leech for owner Jerry Stojan, Fired was bred in California by Steve D. Burns DVM. He was a $18,000 purchase at the 2022 Los Alamitos Equine Sale and collected $4,097(US) for the runner-up effort under jockey Ricardo Moreno. He has earned more than $70,000 in 15 career starts.

Finishing a close third was multiple stakes winner Flight Club, a gray seven-year-old gelding also owned by Jerry Stojan and trained by William Leech. Sired by Foose out of Seperate Flight by Separatist, Flight Club was bred by Steve D. Burns DVM and ridden by J.B. Botello.

The 2019 Los Alamitos Equine Sale graduate ($19,000) finished only a head behind Fired, earning $1,891(US). He has earned $196,572 with 16 wins in 27 starts.

The tight margins—½ length, head, and head—highlighted a competitive field in the short sprint.

Also rans included Double Cruise, Krash On Okey, Ima Hott Version, and Stayin On Corona.

A jockey’s objection was filed by Corrine Andros (rider of Stayin On Corona) against the winner, citing interference at the start, but it was disallowed by the stewards upon review.

The pari-mutuel payoffs reflected the competitive odds. Miss Fancy Nancy returned $4.40 to win, $3.90 to place, and $2.10 to show. Fired paid $3.80 to place and $2.10 to show, while Flight Club returned $2.30 to show.

Despite the adverse track conditions and a tricky start, Miss Fancy Nancy delivered a determined performance in the final yards, securing her second stakes win of the 2025 season.
