Little Sure Shot Dominates Sloppy Track to Capture Fair Meadows Juvenile

TULSA, OK–JUNE 14, 2025–On a rainy Saturday night at Fair Meadows Racecourse, Little Sure Shot lived up to her 1.10-to-1 billing with a commanding wire-to-wire performance in the $15,000 Fair Meadows Juvenile Stakes, contested over 350 yards on a sealed sloppy track.

The Oklahoma-bred stakes featured ten 2-year-old Quarter Horses vying for a total purse of $17,500, including $2,500 from the Oklahoma Bred Program.

Breaking sharply from post three under jockey Mario Delgado, Little Sure Shot immediately seized control of the race and never looked back, cruising home 1½ lengths clear in a time of 17.933 seconds.

The sorrel filly earned a speed index of 88 and collected $8,730 for owners and breeders Jon and Brant Barley of Missouri. She is a daughter of leading third-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 out of the Sweet First Down mare Sweet First Leader. Josue Garcia conditions the filly who broke her maiden two races back in her career debut at Remington Park April 3. She has earned $20,720 in three career starts.

Finishing second was the longshot Awd Shez My Hero, who rallied gamely from mid-pack under Gonzalo Gutierrez. The daughter of champion sire Valiant Hero, out of Sheza Pretty Jesse by Jesse James Jr. Bred and owned by Arthur W. Devereaux of Oklahoma, she is trained by Rhonda Valdivia and earned $3,410 for her effort. She broke her maiden two races back for $25,000 tag at Remington Park has banked $15,650.

Third-place honors went to Pevs Candy P, who chased the top pair throughout under Jorge Torres. The daughter of Good Candy P, out of Pv Queen Bee Candy by Cartels Candy Man, was bred by Gordon and Jackie Pevehouse and is owned by Jackie Pevehouse, the filly is trained by Clinton Crawford and took home $1,875. In her previous two starts she broke her maiden March 17 at Remington then finished sixth in the Laico Bird Staks(RG3) on April 19.

The field competed over a sloppy, sealed track in 74-degree cloudy weather, with a light crosswind measured at 2 mph.

Pari-mutuel payouts reflected the heavy favoritism of the winner and long odds of the runner-up. Little Sure Shot paid $4.20 to win, $3.00 to place, and $2.80 to show. Awd Shez My Hero returned $24.00 to place and $11.20 to show, while Pevs Candy P paid $11.40 to show.

The remainder of the field finished in the following order: Lightz Out Marfa, Finz Up, Bv Shotgun Kelly, Tess Me Jessie, Cynamon Toast Krunch, Jd Dashing Damsel, and Jc Fancy Eagle.

Little Sure Shot’s first stakes victory positions her as a filly to watch in the regional juvenile ranks as the summer racing season unfolds.
