Travelin Princess Breaks Maiden With Fastest Time To The Rusty Wilson Memorial Futurity

BELCOURT, ND–JUNE 15, 2025–Eight horses earned spots in the Rusty Wilson Memorial Futurity finals after two trial races were held Sunday at Chippewa Downs. The 300-yard event, restricted to Accredited North Dakota Bred 2-year-olds, will run back on June 29 for a $12,000-added purse.

All five runners from the first trial advanced to the final. Travelin Princess clocked the fastest qualifying time, defeating R Thirtyeightspecial by a half-length with a late kick at the wire. The top two qualifiers were three lengths ahead of the rest of the field.

Trained by Mark Allery and ridden by Connie McKenzie, this marks her first career win from three starts. Her prior efforts came earlier this season at Chippewa Downs and Miles City. Travelin Princess was bred in North Dakota by Doug Demontigny out of Rare Hula by Rare News.

R Thirtyeightspecial posted the second-fastest time of 16.455. The 2-year-old gelding by Roens Ramblin Fever is owned by Chris Longie. He is trained by Larry Longie and ridden by Dakota Wood.

After winning his debut maiden race last week, R Thirtyeightspecial returned as the favorite in his trial and now holds one win and one second from two starts. He was bred by Gary and Stefanie Roen out of Two Thirty Eight by Lead the Field.
