ALTOONA, IA–JUNE 15, 2025—A field of talented Iowa-bred two-year-olds took to the track at Prairie Meadows on Sunday afternoon for the trials to the $97,300 Hawkeye Futurity, and it was Chew Bac Cah who stole the spotlight with a dominant victory in the third and final trial.

The daughter of Apollitical Jess clocked the fastest qualifying time of the day, stopping the timer in 16.911 seconds and posting a sharp 88 speed index while winning by an impressive 2 ¼ lengths.

Trained by Jason L. Olmstead and ridden by Ramiro Haro Garcia, Chew Bac Cah broke sharply from the inside and led every step of the way under a strong hand ride.

Bred and owned by Lunderborg LLC, the sorrel filly is out of Paint Or More, a daughter of Pyc Paint Your Wagon. Her performance not only secured her spot in the July 5 final but also confirmed her as the top contender going into the championship event. She entered the trials off a win in the Heritage Place Futurity trials at Remington Park May 9. She has earned $19,988 in three starts.

SFS Shooting Cowgirl broke her maiden in the opening trial with a late surge to win by a half-length in 17.305 seconds, good for the third fastest qualifying time. The chestnut filly by leading third-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 is out of SFS Emma Jane, by First Down Dash.

Owned and bred by Sunflower Stables LLC, she is trained by Edward Ross Hardy and was ridden to victory by Angel O. Ramirez. The trial was marred by the disqualification of Shesafavoritecowgirl, who drifted in shortly after the start and was placed sixth by the stewards for interference.

The second trial was taken by CR Grey Goose, who posted a time of 17.370 seconds the fourth fastest time. The gray gelding by champion KVN Corona out of LW Evening Lajolla, by Streakin La Jolla, broke alertly and dueled briefly before kicking clear late to win by a length.

Also trained by Olmstead, CR Grey Goose was ridden by Ramiro Haro Garcia and is owned and bred by Richard L. and Curt Tobin. The victory gave Olmstead and Garcia their second win of the afternoon. It was the first win two starts for Cr Grey Goose who was a troubled 10th in her career debut at Remington Park May 10.

The final for the Hawkeye Futurity will be run on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Prairie Meadows, with a purse of $97,300 on the line.
