JEROME, ID–JUNE 15, 2025–Jerome County Fair’s Sunday card featured six stakes races, including four non black-type contests that set the stage for the afternoon.
Among the non black-type stakes was the Denny Weigt Overnight Futurity, serving as the consolation for the Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity. Also contested was the Harvest Cup Paint and Appaloosa Futurity, showcasing some of the region’s top Paint and Appaloosa juveniles. The Bob Giltner Overnight Derby—a consolation counterpart to the Five Livestock Company/Rod Mills Memorial Derby—offered another competitive field. Rounding out the early stakes was the Pete Arrossa Memorial Stakes, honoring the longtime horseman’s legacy.
Dashing Deluxe Breaks Maiden in Denny Weigt Overnight Futurity
Dashing Deluxe broke her maiden in the Denny Weigt Overnight Futurity, pulling away late to score a 1 1/4 length victory over Streakarun. The daughter of Eagle Deluxe delivered gate-to-wire win in her second career start. Ridden by Angel Armenta, she covered the 350 yards in 18.522 seconds over a fast track.
She is out of Bipty Dash, by Heza Fast Dash, and was bred in Louisiana by Erin Chrisman. With the win, she now holds a record of one win from two starts. Trainer Luis Gomez owns Dashing Deluxe in partnership with Edilberto and Salvador Gomez. The filly was purchased for $8,500 at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
Streakarun finished a determined second. The El Damazo filly, trained by Jose Gomez and ridden by Cristian Vasquez, stayed in close range throughout but could not match the winner's finishing kick.
Jess Chasin Dreams took third with a steady closing effort. The Jess Jones filly is trained by Jeff Mills and was ridden by Erick Ayala.
Ss Anamaria, Fresno 5 and Razleberry Wine complete the order of finish. Arnold and Bw Jess De Stuff were scratched.
Bg Black Friday Dominates in Harvest Cup Paint & Appaloosa Futurity
Bg Black Friday led the the $8,550 Harvest Cup Paint and Appaloosa Futurity from wire-to-wire, breaking sharply from the rail and never looking back. The daughter of Cyber Monday crossed the finish line in 15.812 seconds, clocking an 89 speed index for 300 yards, finishing a full length in front.
Becky Grant bred Bg Black Friday in Idaho out of Cmb A Final Legacy, by Geneo JJ. She is owned and trained by Bryan Grant.
Bg Follow My Lead, also campaigned by the Grant family, turned in a game effort to finish second. Ridden by Erick Ayala, the daughter of Capo De Capi chased the winner throughout and held off late challengers to secure the place.
Nacho Average Paint completed the trifecta with a clean trip from post two. Ridden by Jose Figueroa and trained by Treece Figueroa, the Barracuda filly showed consistency and maintained her position to finish third.
Jess Painted, Chemo Queen and Dutch Cartel round out the order of finish. My Cajun Queen was scratched.
Fear N Fridays Gets The Win in Bob Giltner Overnight Derby
Fear N Fridays triumphed under jockey Erick Ayala in the Bob Giltner Overnight Derby, leading from start to finish with a one-length victory over Favorite Buddy. The 3-year-old post-time favorite by Pyc Fun N Fancy crossed the wire in 17.763 seconds, clocking a 98 speed index in the 350-yard stakes race. Trainer Jeff Mills saddled him for owner AGMW Racing.
The win improves Fear N Fridays’ race record to four wins from eight starts. He was a finalist last year’s Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1, Kindergarten Futurity-G2 and PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity-G2. Bred by Thurston Quarter Horses in Utah, the $15,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate is out of Kipannie, by Proudest Effort.
Favorite Buddy Bc finished a close second, just a neck behind the winner. The colt by Flay put in a determined bid under jockey Jose Figueroa for trainer Wesley Kellett.
Idaho Jess closed strongly on the outside to finish third, another neck back. The Idaho-bred gelding by Jess Got Easier is trained by Ramon Fregoso and was ridden by Oscar Villa.
The remaining order of finish is Precious One, Vigilanz, Ma Pistol Man, Ronnie Racer and Casanova Eyes.
Jazzing Dynasty Prevails in Pete Arrossa Memorial Stakes
Jazzing Dynasty led the fielf from start to finish in the $5,000 Pete Arrossa Memorial Stakes, a stakes race held over 350 yards for three-year-old and older horses at the Jerome County Fair.
Breaking sharply from post eight under jockey Jose Figueroa, the brown filly surged to the front and held off a persistent challenge to win by a half-length, stopping the clock in 17.752 seconds for an impressive 99 speed index.
The daughter of Jr Dynasty Mountain has lit the board 12 of 16 starts with seven victories, including the Elko Derby and Weber Downs Derby last year. Ross L. Herrick bred Jazzy Dynasty in Utah out of Jazzing Jenna, by Jazzing Hi. Owned and trained by Wes Kellett, the 3-year-old filly has earned $73,019.
Mound Valley Glock, ran a game second under Fernando Olague. The four-year-old son of Glock has a record of 4-3-3 from 12 starts and $84,444 in the bank. Trainer Tony Hyde saddled him for owners/breeders Andrea and Eddie Jensen.
Streakin Black Wes, piloted by Luis Delgado rounded out the top trifecta. Trainer Edgar Juarez conditions the son of Panama Wes for owner/breeder Ramiro Saldano.
Tarzzan, Radar, Bw Just A Ruger, Mz Paquita and Lc Iona Cartel round out the order of finish.
