GRANTS PASS, OR—JUNE 15, 2025—Jess F Y I surged to the top of the qualifiers in Sunday's $84,000 Firecracker Futurity trials at Grants Pass, posting the fastest time of the day while dominating his heat with a commanding performance. Sunday's trials races paid a purse of $4,000.00 each.
The 2-year-old gelding by second-crop sire Gold Heart Eagle V, out of Time To Splash Bac by Splash Bac, clocked in at 15.332 seconds over the 350-yard distance to earn a 101 speed index and the top spot in the lineup for the $30,000-added Firecracker Futurity final, which will be contested on July 4.
Owned by Michael S. McKay and bred in Oregon by Michael and Shannon McKay, Jess F Y I is trained by Hector Magallanes and was piloted to victory in his career debut by jockey Jaime Lopez. The gelding drew attention with a 1-3/4 length victory over La Orgulloza in the fourth of six trial heats on the card. He earned $2,000 for the effort.
Second-fastest qualifier Slreasonwithattitude, a filly by Good Candy P out of Lil Touch Of Dixie by the Thoroughbred Sixthirteen, crossed the wire in 15.464, a 96 speed index. She is owned and trained by Sergio Leon, with Erick Mayorga De Luna aboard. The Oregon-bred filly, making her second career start in the trials, was bred by Jaime and Martiniano Leon.
Three Bars Blazin, a gelding by Coronas Leaving You out of Afterglow by Shazoom, finished in 15.542, a 92 speed index, to secure the third-fastest time for owner-breeder Malon L. Cowgill of Washington. He is trained by Benito Curiel and was ridden by Alex V. Anaya.

The ten fastest qualifiers will return to the Oregon track for the Firecracker Futurity final on Independence Day, July 4, 2025. The 350-yard race for 2-year-olds will offer a $30,000-added purse, continuing a celebrated tradition at Grants Pass.
