MEXICO CITY, MEX–JUNE 15, 2025– Only four horses lined up for the Javier Rosique Palavicini Classic on Sunday at the Hipodromo de las Americas, but what the field lacked in size, it made up for in quality. Each entrant brought strong credentials into the 300-yard sprint for a purse of $14,000, and CCB Dressed In Black rose to the occasion.

The 3-year-old filly powered home in 15.08 seconds to secure her first career stakes win. Owned by Cuadra Cartas Blancas and trained by Jorge Ruiz Periban, she was guided to victory by Alejandro Gomez, who kept her focused through the pressure. The win was worth $7,000 and came with a speed index of 95.

It marked her second win of the season, following an allowance score in May. Earlier this spring, she was runner-up in the Chirina Glorys Classic, and as a juvenile, she finished second in the Las Americas Futurity.

CCB Dressed In Black has six wins from 10 starts and nearly $41,000 in earnings. Michael Amburn bred her in Mexico out of  Black Dress, by Favorite Cartel.

Day Cartel, ridden by Alejandro Gomez Lopez, turned in a gutsy performance of her own, finishing a half-length behind the winner. The 5-year-old mare, campaigned by Cuadra Las Vegas, broke sharply and held her ground but lost the lead in the final stretch for second.

Trained by Angel Gustavo Magdaleno, Day Cartel now boasts 17 top-three finishes with 13 wins from 24 starts and earnings nearing $92,000. The daughter of leading sire Krash Cartel was bred in Mexico by Abelardo Gallegos Fernandez and is out of the FDD Dynasty mare Day Drink In.

Finishing third was The Singaporean, a four-year-old gelding owned by Cuadra Alpuyeca. Trainer Antonio Garcia Carranza called on jockey Heriberto Camacho for the ride. The son of Mr Apollitical Dash was bred in Utah by Casey Whitaker out of Easily Ratified by Desirio.

With a career ledger that spans from the U.S. to Mexico, he has achieved a record of 6-6-4 from 18 starts and over $100,000 in earnings. His résumé includes a win in the Sweetwater Downs Futurity and runner-up finishes in the Ron Moosman Utah Bred Futurity, Hipodromo Championship Challenge, and Hipodromo Derby Challenge.

Bombay Temptress completed the field in fourth. The 6-year-old mare, racing for Cuadra Leny, was trained by Rene Camacho Bringas and ridden by Osvaldo Cervantes. She was bred in Texas by Robert Gordon and purchased for $13,500 at the TQHA Yearling Sale. By Tempting Dash and out of Bomballerina by Brimmerton, she now has 19 top-three finishes with five wins and over $37,000 in earnings from 31 starts.
