GILLETTE, WY-JUNE 20–Veteran mare Cayenneoverthemoon proved she's still at the top of her game with a razor-close win in the $27,500 Wyoming Bred Classic Stakes at Energy Downs 307 Horse Racing Friday afternoon.
The 400-yard event for 3-year-olds and up came down to a photo finish, with the six-year-old mare getting the nod by a head over a game Kawlidga.
Ridden by Kody Kellenberger, the 2-1 favorite broke sharply from the gate and edged clear in the final strides to stop the clock in 19.836 seconds, earning a 104 speed index. The win marks Cayenneoverthemoon’s second straight victory this month following a June 6 allowance win and a troubled eighth-place effort in the Energy Downs 307 F&M Stakes on May 16.

Trained by Tryston Matt for owner Walter Larson, Cayenneoverthemoon has now won eight of her 12 career starts at Energy Downs. With today’s $13,750 winner’s share, the daughter of Brindis Por Cayenne improves her record to 16 lifetime wins and 24 top-three finishes from 35 starts, with total earnings of $163,815.
This marks her fifth career stakes victory, adding to prior wins in the Ron Moosman Memorial Stakes (twice), Raysha’s Run – Racing For A Cure Stakes, and the Mixed Wyoming Bred Derby. Cayenneoverthemoon was bred by S B S out of the Apollo (TB) mare Dashmetothemoon.
Kawlidga, a four-year-old brown gelding by Mighty B Valiant, finished a strong second in his seasonal debut, narrowly missing the win under Nakia Teeter.
Bred and owned by Bill D. Shuldberg, who also conditions the gelding, Kawlidga made his first start of the year and delivered a sharp performance. Out of Courageous Bacsplash by Captain Courage, Kawlidga has now earned $27,564 from three wins in ten career starts.
Finishing third was Wave To Foose, a four-year-old bay filly by Foose out of Wave of Payne by Wave Carver, bred in Wyoming by William C. Fox.
Owned by BDS Performance Horses and trained by Skyler Greene, the filly was ridden by Victor Dominguez and turned in a solid effort to round out the trifecta. With this placing, Wave To Foose improves her resume to 3 wins, 2 seconds, and 1 third from 12 starts, with career earnings now at $26,205.
