SHAKOPEE, MN—JUNE 25, 2025—Holliewood, a sorrel filly by champion sire Hes Relentless, turned in a sharp trial performance Wednesday evening at Canterbury Park to lead all qualifiers to the $57,156 MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity final, scheduled for July 10, 2025.
Racing over a sloppy track in the second of three trials, Holliewood surged to a two-length victory under jockey Armando Alvidrez, stopping the clock in 17.981 for 350 yards, the fastest qualifying time of the night.
Owned by Tom and Bill Maher and trained by Jason L. Olmstead, Holliewood is out of the stakes-placed Apollitical Jess mare Apollitical Mogul, who also hails from the prolific female family of multiple graded stakes winners.
She was bred in Oklahoma by Tom Maher and was a $31,000 RNA in the 2024 HP Yearling Sale. Her trial win came despite erratic early action, but she straightened away to draw off impressively.
Second-fastest qualifier Kyndling, another filly, impressed in the final trial by rallying past a stubborn group to win by a neck in 18.140. The daughter of leading second-crop sire Uncle D, out of the Walk Thru Fire mare Requiring Fire, showed determination in the lane under Armando Alvidrez for owner-breeder Cavenaugh Quarter Horses, LLC.
Bred in Oklahoma, the February foal is trained by Jason L. Olmstead. Kyndling’s relentless finish from mid-pack was noted as one of the gutsier efforts of the night while picking her first career win.
Rounding out the top three qualifiers was Ur Favorite Tio, a gelded son of Uncle D out of Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner Fernweh by Favorite Cartel, who surged late to just miss by a neck behind Kyndling, posting a time of 18.199.
Piloted by Gonzalo R. Valles Jr., the California-bred gelding is owned by Tom Maher and was bred by Shaun Hubbard. Like the top two qualifiers, Ur Favorite Tio is conditioned by Jason L. Olmstead. He was a $31,000 purchase at the 2024 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
The final of the MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity, restricted to 2-year-olds sired by participating stallions, will be run on Thursday, July 10 at Canterbury Park. The 350-yard sprint carries a total purse of $57,156.
Olmsted qualified seven of the 10 finalists, including the top six qualifiers. Hes Relentless led all sires with six, while Uncle D got two qualifiers and two trial winners.
