GRANTS PASS, OR–JULY 4, 2025–Trainer Hector Magallanes stamped his dominance at Grants Pass on Friday by sending out the first four finishers in the $84,000 Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass.
Headlining the Magallanes superfecta was Jess F Y I, who remained unbeaten with a decisive 1 1/4-length win in the 300-yard stakes race. Ccr Sweetnseperate, Apolliticalcollusion, and Stel Time completed the 1-2-3-4 finish.
Jess F Y I stopped the clock in 15.345 seconds over a fast track, earning a 101 speed index. The winner collected a $33,600 share of the purse, and the effort paid $3.60 on a $2.00 wager.
Jockey Jaime Lopez returned for the mount after debuting Jess F Y I with the fastest qualifying time from his first start in the trials. The son of Gold Heart Eagle V now boasts two wins in as many starts and has amassed $35,600 in earnings.
Jess F Y I is out of Time to Splash Bac, by Splash Bac. He was bred in Oregon by Michael and Shannon McKay, who also own him.
Magallanes also sent out the second-place finisher, Ccr Sweetnseperate, who closed gamely to edge her stablemate Apolliticalcollusion by a nose. With Jake Samuels aboard, the daughter of One Sweet Jess earned $14,280, bringing her total earnings to $14,600 from two starts.
Ccr Sweetnseperate was bred in Oregon by Cedar Creek Tree Farm Ranch and Racing, who also campaigns her. She is out of Separate Pearl by Separate Interest.
Apolliticalcollusion, another Magallanes trainee, held third by a head after breaking sharply. The sorrel gelding by Dulce Sin Tacha was bred in Colorado by Butch and Stephanie Webb out of Pollitical Lady V, by Apollitical Jess. Owned by Rodney and Alyson Lowe, the $19,000 2024 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale graduate was ridden by Cesar Moreno and has earnings of $9,720.
Completing the Magallanes sweep was Stel Time, who finished fourth. She is out of Stella Corona, by Stel Corona, and is a Jeff Adams homebred. The daughter of Turbulent Times was ridden by Jose Guerrero.
The remainder of the field included La Orgulloza in fifth, Slreasonwithattitude in sixth, and D N Apolitical in seventh. Scratches included El Alfarero Boy (trainer), Heeled (veterinarian), and Three Bars Blazin (veterinarian).
THE FIRECRACKER FUTURITY CONSOLATION
The $14,000 Firecracker Futurity Consolation at Grants Pass was held during Race 5 on Friday’s card.

Jalapeno clocked an 87 speed index in 15.747 seconds, winning by a nose. The son of Jess Good Candy broke his maiden in his third career start, adding $7,000 to his bankroll for the victory. Emilio Guerrero owns and trains, who was bred in Oregon by Boardshorts Stables, LLC out of Zoomin For The Crown by Corona Cartel.
