Davsam Prevails in Thrilling Finish to Capture Firecracker Futurity (G2)

VINTON, LA—JULY 4, 2025—
Davsam, a promising bay colt by leading sire  Apollitical Jess out of Little Kool Corona by Corona Cartel, surged late under jockey Juan Garcia Jr. to win the $263,305 Firecracker Futurity (G2) at Delta Downs by a head in a thrilling duel.

The two-year-old, bred by Paul Tonderum in Oklahoma and owned by Chance Kiehne, stopped the clock in 17.619 seconds for the 350 yards, earning a strong Speed Index of 95 on a fast track with zero wind.

Trained by Viviane Hill, Davsam collected the winner’s share of $131,653, bringing pride to connections who secured him for $45,000 at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

Bouncing off a third-place finish in the Old South Futurity in May, Davsam broke his maiden in the Firecracker trials then return to capture his first career stakes victory. With a (4) 2-1-1 record, he has earned $155,055.

Runner-up Swing Time, a brown filly by leading sire Favorite Cartel out of champion Flash And Roll by First Moonflash, broke sharply and matched strides with the winner before yielding grudgingly.

Bred by Julianna Hawn Holt in Texas, she earned $44,762 for owner Jorge Haddad, trainer Jose Espinosa, and jockey Oscar Andrade Jr. Swing Time has banked $57,662 in four starts.

Finishing third was San Lorenzo Knockout, a sorrel gelding by champion Tempting Dash out of Ms Jess Knockout by Apollitical Jess, who closed late after a troubled start.

Bred by George L Seward in Colorado, he races for Rogelio Marquez Jr., is trained by Jeremy Derozin, and was ridden by Randy Edison Jr. The gelding added $26,331 to his bankroll, having previously sold for $46,000 at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Also a finalist in the Old South Futurity, San Lorenzo Knockout has earned $39,411 in five starts.

Pari-Mutuel Payoffs: Davsam paid $3.80 to win, $2.60 to place, and $2.60 to show. Swing Time returned $5.20 to place and $5.00 to show, while San Lorenzo Knockout paid $6.80 to show.

Also rans were Mega Bucks Gl (4th), Syms Sin Tacha (5th), Jp Roman Train (6th), San Lorenzo Tyson (7th), Ms Apollitical Tres (8th), Summertime Dynasty (9th), and Constelation (10th).
