EVANSTON, WY—JULY 11, 2025—A full slate of accredited Wyoming-bred 2-year-olds took to the track at Wyoming Downs today for 10 trials for the $100,000-est. Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity.
The 330-yard final will be contested at Wyoming Downs on Sunday, July 27.
Flying Rocco emerged as the standout of the day, posting the fastest qualifying time of 16.728 seconds, a 96 speed index with an 8 mph tailwind, in the fifth trial. Owned and bred by J. P. Sample.
The gelded son of leading third-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 out of This Chicks A Queen by Looking For Chicks surged ahead to win by three-quarters of a length under jockey Jesus Valenzuela. Flying Rocco is conditioned by trainer Kylie Valenzuela.
The 2-year-old entered the trials off a very close second in the $226,000 Wyoming Bred Futurity at Energy Downs in his last start June 21. The winner of three of four starts has earned $45,500.
The second-fastest clocking came in the opening trial from In The Vee, who stopped the timer in 16.755 seconds. The Junior June Bug gelding is out of Brindis Secret by Brindis Por Cayenne and races for owner Eddie Jensen. And won his heat by 2-3/4 lengths.
He was bred in Wyoming by Dan or Kim Lapierre and is trained by Jess R. Matt, with Jacob Cardenas up for the qualifying win. In The Vee won the Bucking Horse Sale Futurity in May and was third in the Wyoming Bred Futurity June 21. The three-time winner has earned $58,635.
Rounding out the top three was Kcross Lever Action, who qualified with a time of 16.848 seconds after finishing second behind fastest qualifier Flying Rocco in their heat.
The filly is by Pistol Packin Perry and out of Vvr Dazzling Corona by Coronas Velvet. Owned by BDS Performance Horses and bred in Wyoming by Mike Lipp, she is conditioned by Skyler Greene and was piloted by Victor Felipe Dominguez. Kcross Lever Action broke her maiden in her career debut then ran a troubled fifth in the Wyoming Bred Futurity trials on June 7
