Prized Five Bar Breaks Through in $22,400 NDQHRA Futurity at North Dakota Horse Park

FARGO, ND–AUGUST 3, 2025–Fastest qualifier from the trials, Prized Five Bar, made good on his promise Sunday afternoon at North Dakota Horse Park, capturing the $22,400 NDQHRA Futurity in the 350-yard feature for 2-year-olds.

Running as the post-time favorite, the sorrel gelding broke under jockey Dakota Wood and fended off challengers from gate to wire, stopping the clock in 17.682 seconds. The post-time favorite’s performance earned him a 91 speed index and paid $2.80 to win.

Trained by Robert Johnson for Legacy Ranch, Prized Five Bar has now won two of five starts, pushing his earnings to $14,429. The North Dakota-bred son of Five Bar Cartel broke his maiden in the trial round with the fastest qualifying time, then backed it up with this stakes victory. He is out of Panther Prize Me, a daughter of Panther Mountain, and was bred by Legacy Ranch.

Whirlaway Dream put forth her best effort to date to finish second in the Futurity. The sorrel filly by Whirlaway Red was guided by Bryan McNeil for trainer Jamie Herman and owner Ron Monzelowsky.

Bred in North Dakota by Leon Glasser, she is out of Brooklyns Dream, a mare by First Down Illusion. Despite remaining winless in three starts, her runner-up finish in the Futurity was a significant step forward in her young career.

Kool Dean held on for third, continuing a string of competitive efforts despite still seeking his first victory. Nathan Haar piloted the bay colt by Travelin Miracle for owner-trainer Blaine Decoteau. Bred in North Dakota by Doug Demontigny, Kool Dean is out of Rockin Charts, by Kool Charts. He had also finished second by a neck in his trial heat on July 18, where he was narrowly beaten by Flo Sixes Ridin.

Following the top three across the wire were One Sweet Promise, HR Finnister, High Plains Prize, Ms Special Feature, Valiant Dash King, Valiant Royalty, and Marios Toast To Prize.
