ALBUQUERQUE, NM—SEPTEMBER 1, 2025—In front of a packed grandstand at The Downs at Albuquerque, King Of The Tide delivered a powerful late surge to capture the $3,000,000 All American Quarter Horse Futurity (G1) on Monday afternoon.
Covering the 440 yards in 21.217 seconds over a fast track, the sorrel gelding earned a 97 speed index and edged out heavy favorite Political Twist by a neck under an 8 mph crosswind.
The Wood family continued its remarkable legacy in the All American Futurity (G1) as S. “Trey” Wood became the third generation to train a winner of Quarter Horse racing’s richest race.
Trey’s grandfather, Leo Wood, captured the Futurity in 1979 with Pie In The Sky, and his father, Blane Wood, added multiple All American titles—first with Apocalyptical Jess in 2018, and again with Whistle Stop Cafe in 2020—before passing the torch.
This year, Trey joined the honor roll by sending out King Of The Tide to victory, securing the $1.5 million winner’s share and extending a tradition of All American Futurity success that spans three generations.

Bred in New Mexico by MJ Farms, King Of The Tide is a two-year-old son of leading sire Eye Am King out of the Ocean Runaway mare Ms Riptide.
Owned by E. Gene Bradley, Tod Bradley, and Ware Brown, the $130,000 purchase at the 2024 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale was ridden to victory by champion jockey Ricky Ramirez, who won his first All American aboard Whistle Stop Café in 2020.

"The horse seems to like Albuquerque," jockey Ricky Ramirez said. "He got here and started looking and training good. He just peaked at the right time, and everything worked out on Labor Day."
The win was worth a staggering $1,500,000, rewarding the connections for their investment and patience in developing the young gelding. Ramirez kept King Of The Tide in close contention from the break, dueling stride-for-stride with Political Twist before powering past in the final yards to secure the biggest win of his career.
Second in the Mountain Top NM Bred Futurity(RG2) earlier this year, he has compiled a (5) 3-1-1 record and earned $1,589,287.

Ruidoso QH Futurity(G1) winner Political Twist ran a gallant second for owners La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC and Ray Willis.
Trained by Xavier Rodriguez and ridden by Luis Martinez, the sorrel gelding by leading sire Apollitical Jess out of C Twister Seis by Tres Seis was also bred by MJ Farms and purchased for $150,000 at the 2024 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
Breaking sharply from the gate, Political Twist grabbed the early lead and dueled gamely throughout, but despite his tenacity, he could not withstand the winner’s closing kick.

Suffering his first career loss in six starts, the Ruidoso and West Texas Futurity(G2) winner added $450,000 to up his earnings mark to $1,059,017.
The lightly raced Lethal Lobo, a bay gelding bred in Texas by P.K. Thomas and purchased for $200,000 at the 2024 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, finished a close third.
The son of Favorite Cartel out of the Dean Miracle mare Lethal Delight races for owner Ricardo Ramirez, is trained by Wesley Giles, and was ridden by Noe Garcia Jr.
After initially breaking inward, Lethal Lobo quickly recovered and made a strong late bid to earn $255,000. This was only his fourth career start.

Pari-mutuel payoffs reflected the intensity of the race. King Of The Tide returned $10.80 to win, $3.40 to place, and $2.60 to show. Political Twist paid $3.40 to place and $2.20 to show, while Lethal Lobo returned $4.20 to show.
Behind the top three finishers, Envestor closed strongly to finish fourth and collected $195,000, while Ajs Wingman earned $150,000 for fifth. Kj Xquizit Jess took sixth, adding $120,000 to his bankroll, followed by Dragon Link in seventh with $105,000, The Diesel Train in eighth for $90,000, and Rovos Rail, who veered in at the start, rounding out the field with $75,000. Dee Favorite Tacha, who scratched earned $60,000.
This year’s All American Futurity once again lived up to its billing as Quarter Horse racing’s richest and most prestigious event, showcasing elite juveniles and delivering an unforgettable finish.
