Big Poppy Clocks Fastest Qualifying Time To Speedhorse P&A Championship Futurity-G1

CLAREMORE, OK–OCTOBER 19, 2025–Two trials were contested Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Will Rogers Downs to determine the field for the $50,000-est. Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Championship Futurity-G1, which will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

The 400-yard trials for two-year-old APHA or ApHC runners produced swift performances, with Big Poppy leading all qualifiers after clocking the fastest time of :20.252 seconds with an 85 speed index.

Big Poppy, bred and owned by Newcomb Cattle Co., captured the first of two trials in commanding fashion under jockey Jimmy Dean Brooks for trainer Kevin Willis. The bay colt by Hes Relentless cut loose at the final stretch to win by 1 1/4 lengths over Turnpike Bandit.

The Oklahoma-bred colt out of Twisted Fashion by Crm Livewire has made eight starts, collecting two wins, one second, and one third for career earnings of $15,504. Big Poppy was a finalist in the Oklahoma P&A Juvenile and the Pot O Gold Futurity earlier this season.

The second trial belonged to Cuz Eyema Cowboy Baby, who delivered a polished performance to post the second-fastest qualifying time of :20.303 seconds, good for an 84 speed index. The sorrel gelding, by Flying Cowboy 123, is bred and owned by Gary and Charity Hensley and trained by Jesus Ruben Ruiz.

Out of Cuz Eyema Livewire by Crm Livewire, the Oklahoma-bred gelding was ridden by Roman Cruz. He won by 1 1/4 lengths over Flight Risk. Cuz Eyema Cowboy Baby has now started eight times, with three wins, two seconds, and one third, amassing $50,327 in earnings.

His resume includes a victory in the Speedhorse P&A Futurity-G1 at Fair Meadows and finalist appearances in the Oklahoma P&A Futurity-G1 and Pot O Gold Futurity.

With Big Poppy and Cuz Eyema Cowboy Baby topping the leaderboard from their respective trials, both colts will return as major contenders in the $50,000 estimated Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Championship Futurity-G1 Final on November 11 at Will Rogers Downs, where the best Paint and Appaloosa juveniles will battle for the final Grade 1 crown of the season.
