ALBUQUERQUE, NM—OCTOBER 19, 2025— Despite facing a stiff headwind and a poor start, Traxion rallied powerfully through the final yards to win Sunday’s $457,065 La Fiesta Futurity (G3) at Albuquerque Downs.

The two-year-old sorrel gelding completed the 400-yard distance in 19.419 seconds, earning a 94 speed index and securing the winner’s share of $228,532.

Ridden by champion jockey James Flores, Traxion is trained by Jorge Morales-Flores for owner Abraham Escobedo and was bred in Texas by AQHA Racing Champion Breeder Bobby D. Cox.

The son of world champion sire Freighttrain B out of Telarosa, by Jet Black Patriot, was a $22,000 purchase at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Traxion broke from the outside and gained momentum late, overtaking the leaders in the final strides to win by one and one-quarter lengths in a fast-closing finish on a clear 73-degree afternoon with a five-mile-per-hour headwind.

Bred in Oklahoma by Cuadra JM LLC, Cowboy 1 showed early speed from the inside post and led through the midway point before being caught by the eventual winner. The $100,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate earned $91,413 for his runner-up performance.

Winner of the Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational last June, Cowboy 1 has won four of five starts and banked $132,943.
