PHOENIX, AZ—NOVEMBER 29, 2025—Making his second career start, London Bridge posted the fastest qualifying time during five trials held Saturday at Turf Paradise for the $95,000 AQRA Turf Paradise Open Quarter Horse Futurity, stopping the timer in 19.862 for 400 yards to lead a field of 10 juveniles into the December 22 final.
The trials were contested over a fast track with two-year-olds vying for spots in the lucrative futurity finale.
Bred in California by Steve D. Burns, DVM, London Bridge is a gray gelding by first-crop sire Mental Error out of No Arizona, a daughter of Foose.
Owned by Lionel Zapata and trained by Andres Gonzalez, he broke sharply in the fourth trial and powered home with a three-quarter-length advantage under jockey Luis A. Valenzuela.
The $47,000 Ruidoso Yearling Sale graduate delivered a clean, professional performance to secure his place as the top qualifier. He came into the race off a second-place effort in his career debut, a trial for the La Fiest Futurity at Albuquerque on September 26. He has earned $6,792.
Second-fastest on the afternoon was Pegaso Marengo, who prevailed in a tight finish in the fifth trial with a 19.879 clocking. The New Mexico-bred gelding is by Apollitical Blood and out of Breck N Records by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.
Bred and owned by Victor Diaz, the sorrel gelding drifted late but surged in the final yards under jockey Cerapio Figueroa to earn his qualifying spot for trainer Juan Carlos Gonzalez. It was the first win in four starts for the lightly raced gelding, who has earned $7,680.
Cant Be Swayed posted the third-fastest qualifying time of 19.893 after dominating the second trial. The Texas-bred gelding by Lota Pyc is out of Valiant Chic by Valiant Hero and was bred by Whiting Ranch.
Owned by Alejandro Nieblas and Geovanni Ibarra Morales and trained by Alex Garcia, Cant Be Swayed broke sharply, quickly asserting control before drawing clear under Jose Luis Enriquez in an authoritative performance. The winner of three consecutive races was claimed in his prior start on July 16 at Retama Park for $15,000. He has earned $20,202 in four outs.
The trio of fastest qualifiers will be joined by seven additional trial runners—based on time—for the $95,000 final, scheduled for Monday, December 22 at Turf Paradise. The futurity will once again be contested at 400 yards and is expected to showcase one of the strongest juvenile groups of the meet.
