Mucho Zmoke Scores First Stakes Victory In Lonnie And Candy Elam Memorial

SUNLAND PARK, NM—FEBRUARY 7, 2026—Mucho Zmoke broke through for his first career stakes victory Saturday afternoon at Sunland Park, digging in gamely to capture the $60,000 Lonnie and Candy Elam Memorial Stakes at a distance of 870 yards.

Ridden by Francisco Amparan, Mucho Zmoke showed early speed and raced three wide before taking command, then held off a determined late rally from Little Moon Dawg to prevail by a neck. The brown gelding stopped the clock in 45.723 seconds, earning a speed index of 86 over a fast track.

Trained by Wesley Giles, Mucho Zmoke is sired by leading sire KJ Mucho Macho Man and out of the Corona Cartel mare Zoobie Cartel, a winning mare and stakes finalist. Owned and bred by Curtis, Laird, and Jim Crenwelge along with Jose Espinosa, Mucho Zmoke earned the $36,000 winner’s share of the purse, boosting his lifetime earnings to $147,951 and improving his record to 13-4-2-0.

Little Moon Dawg finished second under Christian Ramos for owner and trainer Martin Perez. The gelding is by champion sire First Moonflash and out of the Hennessy Thoroughbred mare Bundle Doe. Little Moon Dawg rallied strongly through the stretch and now owns a career record of 22-2-9-5 with earnings of $118,615.

Stinky Feet completed finished third under Omar Iturralde for owner Oscar Mendoza and trainer Luis Iturralde. The gelding is sired by stakes sire TF Featured Effort and out of the Reckless Coin mare Reckless Lane, a winning mare. With a career record of 20-3-6-7, Stinky Feet now has earnings of $149,047 after weakening late in the stretch. Stinky Feet was a finalist in the New Mexico Breeders Stakes (G3), but is still searching for a stakes victory.

Jess A Outlaw, Big Moon Dawg, Daddys Tea, Why Buy The Cow, and El Vital completed the order of finish.
