SUNLAND PARK, NM—FEBRUARY 7, 2026—Jet Black Eagles dug in late to earn his first career stakes victory Saturday afternoon at Sunland Park, edging a tough field of accredited New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds in the $186,604 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at 400 yards. Ridden by Christian Ramos, the gelding got the nod by a nose, stopping the clock in 19.781 seconds for a speed index of 85 over a fast track.
A homebred for Mike Parker, Jet Black Eagles is trained by Dominic C. Duree. The gelding is sired by multiple Grade 1 winner and sire Jet Black Patriot and is out of the One Famous Eagle mare Secret Eagles, a winning mare. He entered the final with the third-fastest qualifying time from the January 10 trials and had previously been a finalist in the New Mexico Breeders Futurity (G2) last year. The $87,704 winner’s share of the purse boosted his total earnings to $133,250 and improved his record to 9-2-2-2.
Pour Me A Drinkk finished a fast-closing second under James Flores for owners Fred Danley and Bob McClure, with Fred Danley also handling training duties. The gelding, who came into the final as the second-fastest qualifier, saw his three-race win streak snapped. He is sired by champion Prospect To The Top and out of the First Moonflash mare First Cowgirl Flash, an unraced mare. Pour Me A Drinkk now owns a career record of 8-5-1-1 with earnings of $224,941, highlighted by victories in the New Mexico Classic Futurity (G2) trial and final.
Coming in third was fourth-fastest qualifier BV China Dawl, who finished gamely under Jordy Muniz for owner Bella Valenzuela and trainer Eric Valenzuela. The filly is by leading sire Eye Am King and out of the graded stakes-winning Rushago mare Ima China Rush. A $56,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate, BV China Dawl now holds a record of 5-2-0-1 with earnings of $51,144 and was previously a finalist in the New Mexican Spring Futurity (G2).
The Ghan, McKinlay, Jess A Moon Girl, Czar Catrina, Sure Hit, and Daddys Bullet completed the order of finish. Chamacuz was scratched.
