SUNLAND, NM–MARCH 13, 2026– Trials for the $50,000-added West Texas Juvenile were decided Friday at Sunland Park, with the next 10 fastest runners from the West Texas Futurity trials advancing to the consolation event set for April 4.
Fastest qualifier Hendry, a $165,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate, secured the top spot with a time of :15.199, posting a 93 speed index. Bred by MJ Farms, the gelding is owned by Tungsten Racing Partnership, trained by Tony Sedillo and ridden by Oscar Andrade Jr. Hendry broke on top in the ninth race but was narrowly overtaken late, finishing second to Nine Degrees while still recording the fastest qualifying mark for the Juvenile.
The gelding is by champion sire FDD Dynasty, whose progeny have earned more than $41.3 million. Hendry is out of the Big Daddy Cartel mare Fanncee ($207,078), a graded stakes–placed runner and full sister to stakes winner Wente ($149,779). The mare is also a half-sister to champion Asscher ($489,674). His second dam is champion Astica ($411,623), and the third dam is champion Alice K White ($276,837).
Second fastest qualifier Promising, a $72,000 graduate of the Los Alamitos Equine Sale, stopped the timer in :15.230 for a 92 speed index. Bred by Edward Allred, the gelding is owned by Tungsten Racing Partnership, Barron Racing LLC, Mario Ortega and Empire Racing. He is trained by Eric Valenzuela and was ridden by Jose Enrique Ortiz.
Promising is sired by champion Golden Boi and is out of a full sister to Grade 1 winner She Goes Up ($219,647) and Grade 2 winner Set For It ($77,505). His second dam is graded stakes winner Up For It ($164,280), while the female family also includes stakes winners Up And Atem ($218,951), Ready For It ($95,843), Up For Everything ($85,335) and Flare For Toby ($523,204). Breaking in fourth, the gelding steadily gained ground and reached the wire first by a neck.
Third fastest qualifier Fly To Da Moon, a $45,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate, earned the final top-three qualifying position. Bred by Silver Racing Farm LLC, the filly is owned by Licon Farm and Ranch, trained by Justino Tarin Saenz and ridden by Jacob Enriquez.
Fly To Da Moon is by champion sire FDD Dynasty and is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Amore La Blue ($159,339), a Grade 1 stakes-placed runner. She is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Brown Coffeee ($394,379) and Grade 2 winner Favorite Blues Man ($273,221). Her second dam is world champion and four-time champion Blues Girl Too ($2,032,328).
The West Texas Juvenile final will be contested April 4 at Sunland Park.
