Bridger Posts Fastest Time In New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) Trials

SUNLAND PARK, NM–MARCH 14, 2026– Trials for the New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) were contested Saturday at Sunland Park, with New Mexico-bred juveniles racing 300 yards to determine the qualifiers for the $150,000-added final scheduled April 4.

Fastest qualifier Bridger secured the top time of the trials with an impressive wire-to-wire performance in the fourth trial, drawing clear to win by 2 lengths. The gelding stopped the timer in :14.978 seconds, posting a 101 speed index.

Bred by MJ Farms, Bridger is owned by Tungsten Racing Partnership and Rancho El 48 LLC, trained by Eric Valenzuela and ridden by Jose Enrique Ortiz. A $155,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate, the gelding is sired by leading sire Eye Am King, whose progeny have earned more than $13.3 million.

Bridger is out of the Blushing Bug mare Bridgette Bordeaux ($42,544), a half-sister to stakes winners Sandy Jesse ($250,529) and Warm Red Wine ($140,533). He is a full brother to graded stakes winners Vintage Bordeaux ($372,959) and Broadbent ($171,396) and a half-brother to graded stakes winners Jess Bordeaux ($173,009) and Bv Bridgette Cartel ($257,361).

Second fastest qualifier Big Avery captured the 11th trial despite encountering trouble leaving the gate. Bumped at the start, the colt quickly recovered, broke on top and was never headed, holding on for a 1/4-length victory while stopping the clock in :15.136 seconds for a 95 speed index.

Big Avery is owned by Christopher Lykins, Conda Maze and Downtown Enterprises LLC, trained by Clinton Crawford and ridden by Jacob Enriquez. The colt is by leading sire Big Daddy Cartel, whose progeny have earned more than $29.5 million, and is out of the Kiss My Hocks mare Mi Bella Beso, a winning mare.

Third fastest qualifier Royal Dynasty MRB secured her spot with a victory in the 13th trial. The filly broke in fourth before unleashing a strong late rally to win by 1/2-length, stopping the clock in :15.138 seconds with a 95 speed index.

A $4,500 graduate of the Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Sale, Royal Dynasty MRB was bred by MRB Racing LLC and is owned and trained by Jorge Luis Sanchez, with Oscar Andrade Jr. aboard.

The filly is sired by Running Buddy, a Grade 1 runner, and is out of graded stakes placed runner Azara ($53,977), a half-sister to graded stakes winner Pavel ($357,930). The female family also includes stakes winners Wicked Winner ($137,880), Wicked Willa ($120,793) and champion Eagle Jazz ($903,649).

The $150,000-added New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) final will be contested April 4 at Sunland Park.

The next 10 fastest qualifiers from the trials will return for the $50,000 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes, a consolation race to be contested on April 4.

The next 10 fastest runners from the trials will return for the $50,000 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes, a consolation race to be contested on April 4. A shake will be held in the racing office Sunday morning to determine the final qualifier to the New Mexican Spring Futurity and the fastest qualifier to the New Mexican Spring Fling after Bernin Daylight and Start Big each posted identical times of :15.210 in the trials. The horse not advancing to the futurity final will be the fastest qualifier to the Spring Fling Stakes.
