OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MARCH 21, 2026–Zazas Hasta Luego surged to the front and drew clear to win the $35,000 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Juvenile on March 21 at Remington Park, covering 300 yards in :15.518 seconds.
Breaking first from the gates, the filly took control early and held off Dulce Dinero from gate-to-wire by 3/4-length, while Bawitdaba finished third. The post-time favorite clocked an 88 speed index against a 6 mph headwind.
The final qualifier to the field in the trials, Zazas Hasta Luego's victory marks the first stakes win of the season for first-year-sires. She is bred and owned by Russell and Melissa Trull. The filly is trained by Kasey Willis and was ridden by Jonathan Dominguez.
After going off at 10-1 in her trial and finishing third, Zazas Hasta Luego returned as the 2-1 favorite in the final and delivered a winning performance. The victory was worth $13,711, boosting her earnings to $14,316 from just two starts.
Her sire In Hott Pursuit, a multiple Grade 1 placed runner and brother to champion Hotstepper, is the current leading first-year-sire of Quarter Horse and APHA money earners. He is also the first freshman sire to sire a stakes winner is 2026. She is out of the CRM Livewire winning mare Zazas Island Girl.
Runner-up Dulce Dinero, the sixth-fastest qualifier, finished in :15.626 seconds, while posting an 85 speed index. The homebred gelding races for Shari Burger and Vickie McBee, is trained by Jesus Ruben Ruiz, and was ridden by James Flores.
He is by leading sire Dulce Sin Tacha and out of the Gitter Dun Turnpike mare WF Gitter Dun Chick. From two starts, he has now earned $6,295.
Bawitdaba, the ninth qualifier, completed the top three after stopping the clock in :15.783 seconds. The gelding is owned and bred by Gary and Charity Hensley, trained by Jesus Ruben Ruiz, and ridden by Roman Cruz.
He is sired by champion CRM Livewire and is out of the Brookstone Bay mare Que Magnifique, a winning Quarter Horse mare. Bawitdaba now has earnings of $4,130.
WF Manfredi, the fastest qualifier, finished fourth and was followed by Tyger Hippie, TC Cruising Crue, Go Lady Bug, Working Angel, and Peace Out Homies. Staggerd Like Haggard was scratched.
