Undefeated Whoopie Cowgirl Wins Louisiana Downs Futurity (G2)

BOSSIER, LA–MARCH 28, 2026– Whoopie Cowgirl remained undefeated in two starts and led a sweep by the top three qualifiers in the $313,008 Louisiana Downs Futurity (G2) on March 28 at Louisiana Downs, covering 300 yards in :15.298 seconds.

Ridden by Jorge Garcia, the filly broke sharply, drifted out slightly, and drew clear late to win by a 1/2-length over DK Bonita Jess, while Mucho Man Lady finished third. The winner posted a 103 speed index over a fast track. The $140,854 winner’s share of the purse pushed her total earnings to $143,854.

Bred by Mark Rigby, DVM, and owned by Denis Moran, Whoopie Cowgirl is trained by Ramiro Barajas Villarreal. The filly is a $35,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate and is sired by leading sire Flying Cowboy 123, whose progeny have earned more than $17.3 million, led by All American Futurity (G1) winner Cowboys Gun Z ($1,670,517). She is out of the Tac It Like a Man mare Tacarosie, a winner and half-sister to stakes placed runner A Salty Corona ($21,335). The female line also includes champion Tarzanito ($429,657).

Whoopie Cowgirl entered the final off the fastest qualifying time, winning the seventh trial by a length in :15.309 seconds on March 6.

Runner-up DK Bonita Jess rallied late to secure second after stopping the clock in :15.393 seconds. The filly, owned by CH Horse Racing LLC, is trained by Jose Garcia and was ridden by Nestor Duran.

Bred by Cuadra La Presita, she is a $120,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate. She is sired by all-time leading sire Apollitical Jess, whose progeny have earned more than $82.3 million, and is out of the Corona Cartel mare Marney Jo, a stakes winner in Mexico and full sister to champion KVN Corona ($868,077) and Grade 1 winner Big Lew ($638,878). DK Bonita Jess is also a full sister to DK Marney Jess ($561,063).

She qualified to the final with the third-fastest time after winning her trial on March 6.

Mucho Man Lady, the second-fastest qualifier, finished third after stopping the clock in :15.414 seconds. The filly is owned and bred by Ruse Ranch LLC, trained by Jose A. Garcia, and was ridden by Manuel Gutierrez. She is sired by leading young sire KJ Mucho Macho Man, whose first crops have already produced more than $2.4 million in earnings, and is out of the Cosmograph mare Cosmo Traffic, a winner and Grade 1 finalist.

She entered the final off a strong effort in the trials, posting the second-fastest qualifying time on March 6.

Cowgirls 123 finished fourth, followed by Apollitical Cowboy, Mojito Your Train, JC Canelo, Feenix, and Corona Pursuit. JP Fast Dash was scratched.
