SUNLAND PARK, NM–APRIL 4, 2026– CQ Coyame Jessy delivered a late-running victory to win the $80,000 NMHBA Stakes on April 4 at Sunland Park, covering 400 yards in :19.647 seconds over a fast track.
Ridden by Noe Garcia Jr., the gelding overcame a slow start, rallied through the stretch, and proved best to defeat Dads On A Roll, while Holliday finished third. The winner earned $48,000.
The race was dominated by Big Daddy Cartel, who sired all but one of the starters, including the top three finishers.
Bred by Carlos Paez and Israel Bordier, CQ Coyame Jessy is owned by Israel Bordier and trained by Wesley Giles. He is out of the Jesse James Jr mare Runaway Leonarda, a winning mare.

This marked his first stakes win, after previously finishing third in the New Mexico Classic Futurity (G2).
Runner-up Dads On A Roll is owned by Alepony LLC, trained by Salvador Soto, and was ridden by Jesse Levario. The gelding showed speed, took the lead in mid-stretch, and held on gamely before being outfinished.
Bred by MJ Farms, he is also sired by Big Daddy Cartel and is out of the Woodbridge mare Woodys Allstar, a graded stakes winner. He now holds a record of 9-1-2-2 with earnings of $44,270 and was a finalist in multiple stakes events last season.
Holliday, also racing for Alepony LLC and trained by Salvador Soto, completed the Big Daddy Cartel sweep of the top three. Ridden by Gabriel Medrano, the gelding broke a step slow, was crowded during the running, and held for third.
Bred by MJ Farms, he is out of the stakes-winning Bigtime Favorite mare Ms Jingles and is a half-brother to graded stakes winner Bella De Ball ($634,374). The female line also includes World Champion See Me Do It ($913,464).
Holliday now owns a record of 8-3-1-3 with earnings of $145,391, including a third-place finish in last year’s New Mexican Spring Futurity (G2).
Notably, both Dads On A Roll and Holliday are owned by Alepony LLC and trained by Salvador Soto, accounting for the second and third-place finishers.
The remainder of the order of finish was Triple 7, Prime Time Eagle, Icy Cartel, and Spenzor.
