OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MAY 15, 2026–Cardiac Cowboy had run in 12 stakes races in a row, coming into Friday night’s open allowance at Remington Park. The class drop was evident as the cream rose to the top with him winning for the 12th time in his career.
The 5-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding by Flying Cowboy 123, out of the Carters Cartel mare Southard Cartel, is a multiple graded stakes winner. He surprisingly had to work hard for this victory as the 4-5 odds-on favorite. Cardiac Cowboy only won by a neck after 250 yards over Trademarque (7-1), who was another three-quarters of a length ahead of third-place finisher Ima Fancy Eye Opener (2-1).
It was the second victory in two tries at 250 yards for Cardiac Cowboy and his fifth win in 15 Remington Park starts. His last 250-yard victory came in the $75,000 Mighty Deck Three Stakes on March 8 here. He had run a subsequent third in the Grade 2, $50,000 Bob Moore Memorial last time out on April 18 at 300 yards, beaten one length. Regular rider Armando Alvidrez was up again Friday for the gelding’s third win in his last six starts. He also won the Grade 3, $50,000 Two Rivers Stakes at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa, on Sept. 26 last fall.
Trainer Jason Olmstead knows when and where to run Cardiac Cowboy so that he is in peak form. This gelding, owned by Tom and Lou Ann Smith, and Amber Olmstead of Pryor, Okla., earned $26,490 from the $46,220 allowance purse and improved to 30 starts, 12 wins, three seconds and five thirds for lifetime earnings of $445,261. He was bred by Jo Rice.
Cardiac Cowboy stopped the timer in :13.165 over a sealed-fast track, earning a speed index of 94. He paid $3.80 to win, $2.40 to place and 2.10 to show.
Remington Park racing continues Saturday, May 16 with an early start of Noon as the simulcast of the $2,000,000 Preakness Stakes, the second-leg of Thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown, is featured via simulcast from Laurel Park at 6pm. All times are Central.
