LOS ALAMITOS, CA–JUNE 7, 2026—Less than a month after a rough trip compromised her chances in the Grade 2 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity, Jerardo Herrera and Larry Stewart’s California-bred filly My Favorite Paris found redemption on Sunday night, pulling away to win the $30,000 Fred Scane Handicap by a half-length.
Breaking from post position 6 under jockey Irving Lara, My Favorite Paris took a wide path during the early going, but she did everything right from there. Taking the lead shortly after the start, she flew home while holding off Ashley Garcia’s homebred Paint Horse, Lose Ur Cotton.
My Favorite Paris, a daughter of Favorite Cartel out of the stakes-placed mare Paris Prize, quickly established a half-length advantage by the stretch and maintained that exact margin to the wire, stopping the clock for the 300 yards in :15.744 over a fast track. Sent off as the second choice at odds of 2-1, she returned $6.20 to win.
The victory highlighted the strong trainer/jockey combination of Jose Flores and Irving Lara. After dominating the Kindergarten trials in April, the duo has now teamed up to win 12 races from 58 starters this season for a sharp 20.7% winning ratio.
The stakes victory further strengthened Flores’ position at the top of the local standings, where he currently leads all Quarter Horse trainers with 23 wins from a meet-high 125 starters. For Lara, the win marks his 16th victory of the season, placing him fourth in the Quarter Horse jockey standings.

“I was happy to win this race," said trainer Jose Flores. "Fred Scane was one of the best people that I've met in this industry. He was such a good person to me over the years. I remember going to the ranch with Dr. Allred and him and I have a lot memories came back of Fred. I always think of him because he was a good friend as well. They don't make them like him anymore. I appreciate the kind of person he was and I'm very honored to win this race. He had the great Merridoc and he was a good person. I can only hope I can win this race again and do it in his honor.”
Co-owner Jerardo Herrera expressed his gratitude for the filly's resilience and the stable's effort. “I can only thank Jose and his team. Thanks to them we're here. It's a good comeback for this filly. This is like a second chance for her after the Kindergaten. We're happy and we'll see her on the next trials.”
Bred by George and Sandra Villalobos, My Favorite Paris earned $16,500 for the victory, boosting her lifetime bankroll to $33,646. Her next target race is likely to be the Governor’s Cup Futurity trials, to be held on July 5.
Behind the winner, the talented Paint horse Lose Ur Cotton (PT) turned in a tremendous effort to finish second. Despite breaking inward and bumping at the start, she showed tremendous grit to rally under jockey Cesar Franco and secure the runner-up spot for trainer Angela Maria Aquino, pocketing $6,750 for her owner/breeder, Ashley Garcia.
Aquino has enjoyed great success with Paint Horses at Los Alamitos over the past few years. She trains the consistent stakes runner Kid Cocinero and is the owner of Chiseled N Chrome, who scored a victory at 36-1 when facing Quarter Horses on May 2.
Top Fast Eagle broke sharply under jockey Ricardo Ramirez and held on for third place. Conditioned by Sergio Morfin for owner Ramon Esquivez, the post-time favorite earned $3,750 for his top-three finish. The field was completed by Cyberscurve in fourth, Val Bamby in fifth, and Home to Stay in sixth. Talker and Pyc Last Dance Cindy were scratched from the Fred Scane.
