Capos Train Station Breaks Maiden in Ruidoso Maiden Stakes

ALBUQUERQUE, NM–JUNE 13, 2026–Capos Train Station delivered a breakthrough performance Saturday night, drawing clear to win the $80,403 Ruidoso Maiden Stakes at The Downs at Albuquerque.

The race was contested over 350 yards for three, four and five-year-old maidens, with runners benefiting from a 9 mph tailwind over a fast track.

Ridden by Joseph Belloc Jr. for owner Rancho El 48 LLC and trainer James Gonzales III, Capos Train Station broke sharply and quickly took command before pulling away late to score by a length. The gelding stopped the clock in :16.922 while earning a 106 speed index.

Bred by Los LLC, Capos Train Station is a $20,000 repurchase from the Heritage Place Yearling Sale. The son of world champion sire Freighttrain B is out of the stakes-placed Capo De Capi mare Olivia De Capo ($48,881).

His pedigree also includes stakes winner Cindy First CD ($37,319) as the third dam, while the female family traces to millionaire Falling In Loveagain ($1,210,375).

The victory was the second from three career starts for Capos Train Station, who entered the stakes as the fourth-fastest qualifier. The $33,769 winner's share of the purse boosted his earnings to $41,569.

Regarding Jess finished second under Jesse Levario for owner Carlos Martinez and trainer Joel Gonzales. After settling mid-pack early, the colt rallied strongly in the stretch to secure the runner-up position.

Bred by Rolling Green Ranch, Regarding Jess is a $19,000 graduate of the Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale. The son of champion Jess Good Candy is out of the stakes-placed Chicks Regard mare Ellens Regard. The colt remains a maiden but has now compiled a record of 5-0-3-0 with earnings of $21,568.

Political Spin completed the trifecta under Jaciel Soto for owner and breeder Cavenaugh Quarter Horses LLC and trainer Jason Olmstead. The gelding broke well and stayed involved throughout before holding third at the finish.

The son of leading sire Apollitical Jess is out of the graded stakes-winning Valiant Hero mare Weetona's Lafawn. His female family traces to AQHA Dam of Distinction and Broodmare of the Year Fast Prize Dash. Political Spin, who entered the final as the fastest qualifier, now owns a record of 11 starts with three seconds, one third and earnings of $15,998.

Candy Baby finished fourth and was followed by Powerful Knockout, Gold D, Get Gone 123, Someone Elses Kiss, AJ Apollokiss and Dok Holiday.
