ALTOONA, IA–JUNE 14, 2026–Three trials were contested Sunday at Prairie Meadows to determine the field for the $140,000-estimated Hawkeye Futurity, with first-time starter Jess A Lil Whiskey posting the fastest qualifying time from the final trial.
Owned by Jose Antonio Villegas and Jim Kobett, Jess A Lil Whiskey broke sharply under Mario Delgado and quickly established command before drawing away to a 2¼-length victory while stopping the timer in :16.797 for 330 yards. The impressive debut performance earned a 94 speed index and secured the top qualifying mark for trainer Tony Dean Jones.
Bred in Iowa by HK Performance Horses, the colt is sired by champion Flying Cowboy 123 and out of the Valiant Hero mare Jess Valiant. The March 22, 2024 foal was making his first lifetime start and appeared well in hand throughout the stretch while winning going away.
Second-fastest qualifier TS Cyber Flash dominated the opening trial under Francisco Calderon, drawing off to a 1½-length victory in :16.900. The brown gelding broke alertly and took command before the midway point, earning a 90 speed index while remaining unbeaten in Iowa-bred company.
A homebred for Thomas Scheckel, TS Cyber Flash is trained by Fernando Ivan Manriquez. The gelding is sired by Cyber Monday and out of the First Moonflash mare Stylish Flash, a stakes finalist. With the victory, TS Cyber Flash improved his record to 3-2-0-0 and increased his earnings to $22,958.
The third-fastest qualifier emerged from the second trial when Streakin KMH and jockey Alfredo Triana Jr. rallied from just off the pace before kicking clear late to win by one length in :16.988. The filly earned an 88 speed index and was making only the second start of her career.
Owned by Stacy Barr and Mchelle Cadenhead, Streakin KMH is conditioned by John Stinebaugh and was bred by RDS Legacy Racing LLC. The sorrel filly is by champion Kiss My Hocks and out of the stakes-winning Mr Jess Perry mare Streakin Jesszee.
The $140,000-estimated Hawkeye Futurity final is scheduled for July 3 at Prairie Meadows, where the qualifiers will return to compete over 330 yards for Iowa-bred juvenile honors.
