SHAKOPEE, MN–JUNE 18, 2026–Sheza A Sugar Momma and jockey Ryder Olmstead captured the $29,500 North Star State Futurity at Canterbury Park on June 18.

Olmstead, the 16-year-old son of trainer Jason Olmstead, was aboard for his dad as trainer and owners Tom Maher and Paul Luedemann.

Breaking sharply from the gate, Sheza A Sugar Momma quickly seized command and steadily widened her advantage before drawing off to win by two lengths despite drifting out late in the race. Covering the 300 yards in 15.997 seconds over a fast track, she earned a speed index of 85.

In just her second career start, Sheza A Sugar Momma improved her record to 2-1-1-0 and boosted her earnings to $18,761 after collecting the $13,546 winner's share of the purse.

Bred by Summer Run Inc., the filly is sired by champion sire Hes Relentless and out of the PYC Paint Your Wagon mare Candy Coated Paint.

Dead Game Zoomie and jockey Aram Martinez finished second. The filly is owned by Manuel Hernandez and trained by Haley Hobbs, who conditioned the second-, third-, and fourth-place finishers.

Bred by Cristian Ambriz, Dead Game Zoomie is sired by Jess Zoomin and out of the Game Patriot mare Aint No Game. After ducking out at the start, she recovered quickly and mounted a solid late bid to secure the runner-up position. She now owns a record of 4-1-1-0 with earnings of $9,576.

Superona and jockey Gonzalo Gutierrez finished third for owner-breeder Cesar Albino Martinez. Also trained by Haley Hobbs, the filly chased the pace throughout and appeared headed for second before being caught late by Dead Game Zoomie.

She is sired by One Sweet Jess and out of the Foose mare Jazzing Joanna. Superona now sports a record of 3-0-0-1 with earnings of $3,500.

Meleys, EOS Hey Bucko, Jessapolliticalcandy, One Sweet Lil Lady, Ko For KJ Lady, and Iza B Slick completed the order of finish.
