Kc Flyin Jess Springs 22-1 Surprise Upset In $143,580 Garañones Futurity-RG2

MEXICO CITY, MEX.–JUNE 28, 2026–Kc Flyin Jess delivered one of the biggest upsets of the Mexican Quarter Horse season, rallying to win Sunday's $143,580 Garañones Futurity-RG2 for Mexico-bred 2-year-olds at Hipódromo de las Américas.

Under Angel Santillan, the daughter of Krash Cartel covered the 300 yards on a waterlogged racing surface in 15.327 seconds to earn the winner's share of $60,304.

Sent off at odds of 22-1, Kc Flyin Jess rebounded after finishing ninth in the Mexico Futurity earlier this season. She had previously finished second in her trial to Dk Kiss My Danny before turning the tables in the rich final. The victory improved her record to two wins and one second from four starts while boosting her lifetime earnings to $68,720.

Kc Flyin Jess races for Cuadra Alpuyeca and is trained by Antonio Garcia Carranza. Bred by Abelardo Gallegos, she is out of Jess Love To Fly by Fly Jess Fly.

Dk Tsunami Cartel finished second after qualifying with the third-fastest time from the trials. The gelding races for Cuadra San Martin and is trained by Luis Enrique Cruz. The runner-up entered the race off a fifth-place finish in the Mexico Futurity and now owns a record of one win and two seconds from four starts with lifetime earnings of $38,375.

Nestor Duran had the riding assignment aboard the son of Danny Cartel. Bred by Cuadra La Presita, Dk Tsunami Cartel is out of Jess A Reason V by Good Reason SA.

Dk Kiss My Danny earned his first black-type placing with a third-place finish under Paul Rodriguez. Racing for owner-breeder Cuadra La Presita, he is out of Kiss My Crystals by Kiss My Hocks. Also trained Luis Enrique Cruz, he came into the final off a victory from his trial and now has a record of one win and two thirds from three starts with earnings of $20,830.

GARANONES FUTURITY CONSOLATION

In the $15,721 Garañones Futurity Consolation, Kc Star Krash broke her maiden with an impressive victory for Cuadra La Diamantina. Ridden by Carlos Gomez and trained by Alejandro Gutierrez, the daughter of Krash Cartel completed the 300 yards in 15.477 seconds.

Bred by Abelardo Gallegos, Kc Star Krash is out of Estrella De Noche by Favorite Cartel. She defeated Dk Reyna De Oro, while Us Cartel finished third. The victory was her first from four career starts and pushed her lifetime earnings past the $10,000 mark.
