CYPRESS, CA–JULY 26, 2026–A year after capturing the Sprint Stakes at 350 yards on California Breeders Champions Night, Ed Allred’s Up For Everything returned to the spotlight in a big way on Sunday. Stretching out to 400 yards, the 6-year-old gelding scored a 10-1 upset victory over a field that included the talented Winners Share and the great Cattail Cove in the Restricted Grade 1, $100,000 Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap.

Ridden by Irving Lara, who also guided Brother Ray to victory in the Governor's Cup Derby on the card, Up For Everything broke sharply, led from start to finish, and held off a fierce late surge from Steve Burns' Winners Share to win by a neck in :20.157.

The win marked a major milestone for trainer Scott Willoughby, celebrating his 30th stakes victory on California Breeders Champions Night—a total second only to Paul Jones' 35 wins in the event.

The son of Favorite Cartel out of Up For It entered the Spencer Childers with just two starts under his belt in 2026, having wrapped up his 2025 campaign last August before returning with an allowance win in April.

"We've given him time off to bring him back for the later part of this year," Willoughby said. "We'll try to get him in the Champion of Champions. We'll see how he pulls up and we'll go for the Los Alamitos Invitational Championship (at 440 yards) in October. The Go Man Go is coming up pretty quick. It's in about 30 days. He could go in it, we'll just see how he pulls up. I think he'll be fine at 440 yards. He's a tough hard-knocking horse. He got away good. His strongest point is getting away early. He's matured a lot and I think he's going to go down the racetrack. It means a lot to have won a lot of races on this night. Dr. Allred does so much for California racing and it means a lot to win races on Cal-bred night."

Up For Everything earned $55,000 for the victory, boosting his lifetime bankroll to $150,165. Winners Share earned $22,500 for his game runner-up performance, while 9-year-old Cattail Cove collected $12,500 for finishing a close third. Cattail Cove has now hit the board in 41 of his 63 lifetime starts, pushing his career earnings to $895,905.

Cheater, also owned by Ed Allred, stayed in range before being edged for third, followed in order by Boardwalk, Epic Wind, Defending Champ, and Cyber Force.
