O Sawyer Draws Clear To Win $25,309 Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby

EDMONTON, AB–AUGUST 15, 2026–O Sawyer and jockey Alejandro Angeles drew clear late to capture the $25,309 Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby at Century Mile on Saturday.

O Sawyer completed the 330 yards in :17.014, earning a 94 speed index while defeating Hot Cerveza by 1 1/2 lengths over a fast track.

Wesley Oulton owns and trains O Sawyer and co-bred the Alberta-bred gelding with Susen Oulton. He is by First Timber and out of the Separatist mare Lets Get Going.

O Sawyer entered Saturday's final off a fifth-place finish in the All Canadian Derby. Prior to that start, he won the Century Mile Derby Challenge Stakes. He also captured the 2025 Century Mile Juvenile Challenge Stakes.

The victory improved his record to 13-3-3-2, and the $11,421 winner's share boosted his career earnings to $68,052. The race carried a total purse of $25,309.

Hot Cerveza rallied between horses to finish second under Alexander Marti for owner Jerry Stojan and trainer William Leech. Bred by Charles Stojan, the gelding is by Cerveza Corona and out of the Walk Thru Fire mare Getit Hot.

Hot Cerveza improved his record to 7-2-2-1 with earnings of $23,047. He entered the race off a fourth-place finish in the All Canadian Derby and finished third in last year's Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity.

Cervezas Fire rallied late to finish third under Ricardo Moreno for owner Jerry Stojan and trainer William Leech. The filly was bumped leaving the gate before recovering to secure third.

Bred by Charles Stojan, Cervezas Fire is also by Cerveza Corona and out of Getit Hot, making her a full sister to runner-up Hot Cerveza. She now has a record of 8-3-0-3 with earnings of $31,774.

Cervezas Fire entered Saturday's final off a third-place finish in the Century Mile Derby Challenge Stakes. She won the Sale Stakes Futurity last year.

One Tough Cerveza finished fourth, followed by Insta Bond, Totoughforyou, Wagon Burner 109, Rocn On West and One Sweet Cruise.
