Sheza Fearless Eagle Powers To Rocky Mountain Championship Stakes Victory

AURORA, CO–AUGUST 16, 2026–Sheza Fearless Eagle added another stakes victory to her record Sunday afternoon at Arapahoe Park, powering to a 2 1/4-length victory in the $19,500 Rocky Mountain Championship Stakes.

Ridden by Edwin Escobedo, Sheza Fearless Eagle broke from post three and showed speed throughout the 440-yard event. The 4-year-old filly stopped the clock in :21.853, earning an 86 speed index over a sloppy, sealed racing surface.

Sheza Fearless Eagle races for owner Jill Cook and trainer Fernando Manriquez. Bred in Colorado by Vaughn M. and Jill Cook, she is by One Fabulous Eagle and out of the Tres Seis mare Ima Fearless Fire. She was a $16,000 repurchase at the Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

The talented filly is a half-sister to stakes winner Fearless Fortitude ($107,297). Her female family includes Dams of Distinction Dasha Freda ($111,741) and Fearless Freda ($262,121), as well as World Champion Heza Dasha Fire ($2,240,112) and multiple other champions.

Sheza Fearless Eagle entered Sunday's championship off a victory in the Arapahoe Park Distaff Challenge Stakes. Her previous stakes victories also include the Mile High Derby, Lucille Rowe Derby and Grade 3 Valley Junction Futurity.

With Sunday's $11,700 winner's share, Sheza Fearless Eagle improved her record to 20-10-1-5 and increased her career earnings to $303,161.

Presido Pete finished second under jockey Fernando Fonseca-Soto for owner and breeder Francisco Cornejo and trainer Haley Hobbs. The 5-year-old stallion was bumped before drifting out and making a late push, finishing a nose ahead of Hayleys Eagle for the runner-up spot.

Presido Pete is by The Marfa Lights and out of the Wave Carver mare Tahiti Wave. The established stakes runner has won the Rocky Mountain Championship Stakes, Leo Beau Dash Stakes, Dolls Prodigy Stakes and Lucille Rowe Derby. He now owns a record of 33-9-5-4 with earnings of $145,484.

Hayleys Eagle crossed the wire third under Adrian Morales for owners Omar Ramirez and Lionel Marquez Gandara, who also trains the 3-year-old filly. She chased the winner before being outkicked late.

Bred by Bill and Marsha Drake, Hayleys Eagle is by This Is An Eagle and out of the Ivory James mare Im Hayley Two. She has compiled a record of 10-3-3-1 with earnings of $35,234 and captured the Lucille Rowe Derby earlier this season.

Country Rocket Foose and Kvn Dulce Corona completed the order of finish. Ronda Rowsey was scratched.
