OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 22, 2010—Moon Bully has emerged as the top racing Appaloosa in the nation by virtue of another convincing win at Remington Park, this time in the $31,000 National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes on Saturday night.
The lone Appaloosa in a field of seven for the main event, Moon Bully left the starting gate in solid shape and just needed to find his cruising speed over the 440 yards to pull away to a one-length win. A three-way photo was needed to sort out second, third and fourth place with the 3-year-old Cutrock in the picture as the runner-up. Bust N Moves was another nose back in third with the legendary Got Country Grip another nose behind in fourth.

Owned and trained by Dub Seely of Sallisaw, Okla., Moon Bully has now won four straight races this season with a third-place finish during the opening weekend in March keeping him from a perfect season of five wins from as many attempts. Jockey Cody Jensen piloted the diminutive Moon Bully as he has during all of the races during his winning streak.
"He is a heck of a horse. I got the privilege to ride him for the first time at Lone Star Park last year, I really liked him there. When they asked me to ride him again here I jumped at the chance,” Jensen said, recounting his history with Moon Bully. “Today he left the gates a lot sharper then he did last time (on May 13). I knew the 440 yards was going to be an advantage for him. He always finishes so strong in his races. I thought if we got in contention early, we would have a pretty good shot to out-finish them."
Moon Bully handled 440 yards over a fast track in 21.83 seconds into a headwind of 15 miles per hour.
Moon Bully was 8-5 in the wagering and paid $5.40 to win, $3 to place and $2.20 to show. Cutrock, winner of the Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby in March, was the slight favorite at 8-5 odds with a few dollars more placed on him to win. Cutrock paid $3.20 to place and $2.80 to show. Bust N Moves paid $5 to show.
A 6-year-old Appaloosa gelding, bred in Tennessee by John Holley, Moon Bully is by Man With The Power from the Moon Lark (qh) mare TB Fancy Moon (qh). The win in the Grade 1 National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes is his 18th from 44 career starts and his seventh Remington Park victory. He earned $18,000 for the effort to move his lifetime bankroll to $176,874.
Jockey Cody Smith posted a riding triple Saturday by scoring with RS Coal ($4.40 to win) in the second race, Awesome Fling ($5.40) in the fourth and Make A Run Elfie ($22.20) in the sixth. The three victories gives him 28 for the season.
Just five race dates remain in the 2010 American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season at Remington Park. Sunday’s 10-race program is underway at 6:25 p.m.
