Blue Louisiana Jolla Looks Sharp in Mr Jess Perry Stakes Victory at Louisiana Downs

BOSSIER CITY, LA—FEBRUARY 26, 2011—Elroy Potts, Jr. and Watson Land and Cattle's Blue Louisiana Jolla dueled through the stretch before pulling away from Martini Mountain Saturday afternoon in the $50,000 Mr Jess Perry Stakes(RG3) at Louisiana Downs. The 5-year-old covered the 350 yards in a sharp :17.544 seconds, a 102 speed index, under jockey Trevino Clark. The winner's purse of $30,000 pushed his career earnings mark to $197,820 with an 8-4-3 record from 22 career starts.

Elroy Potts, Sr. trains the sorrel gelding by Jess Louisiana Blue from the Somekindadash mare, Somekinda Rainey. It was the first start this season for the home-bred of Elroy Potts, Jr. He rewarded backers with a $24.00 win ticket following the ¾ length victory.

Starting from the outside post, Martini Mountain dueled earlier had to settle for second while earning $10,000 for owner/breeder James Mitchell.

Paul Rigdon trains the Panther Mountain 5-year-old with career earnings of more than $316,000. Ridden by Danny Lavergne, Martini Mountain is out of the Streakin La Jolla mare Glitz Gator.

Race favorite Heza Grand Ds Dash was hoping to bounce off a January 25th Allowance win at Louisiana Downs, but lacked a needed late kick to get the effort done. The Heza Fast Dash 7-year-old, under jockey Bobby Ransom, finished three-quarters off Martini Mountain while earning $5,500 tor the effort.

Vann Haywood trains the gelding for Casey Haywood. Glinden Leger bred Heza Grand Ds Dash from the This Snow Is Royal mare Mary Snow. Saturday's third place money moved his career earnings over $150,000.

Completing the field were Hesa Magic Encounter, Xtreme Fashion, Jess Courageous, Jess Pop My Rocket, Haystretcher, Worlds ON High and Mr Vickenson.

Racing continues tomorrow (Sunday) at Louisiana Downs with a nine-race card kicking off at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
