LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 4, 2015—Headed by Sunday’s $150,000 purchase of Hip #228, a filly by Mr Jess Perry out of Grade 1 stakes winning mare Dinastia Toll BRZ, Abigail Kawananakoa strengthened her outstanding stable of racehorses by purchasing four out of the top five high sellers at the 2015 Los Alamitos Equine Sale held on the weekend of October 3-4.
The event wrapped up with 247 yearlings selling for a total of $4,343,000 with a median price for yearlings of $12,000, an increase of 4.4% from last year’s $11,500 median. The average sale price for yearlings was a solid $17,583, down 7.5% when compared to 2014 figures, but up 16% from 2013 figures. Fifteen broodmares sold for an average of $11,660, up 65% from last year figures. All in all, a total of 267 head of horses were sold for $4,565,400 for an average sale price of $17,099.
Abigail Kawananakoa was the sale's leading buyer including purchasing three of the sale top four high-sellers.
A Bit Quirky, a sister to multiple G1 winner Quirky, was purchased by Abigail Kawananakoa for $120,000.

Kawananakoa paid $120,000 for A Bit Quirky (Hip 229), a sister to multiple grade 1 winner Quirky ($322,598), from the consignment of Edward C. Allred. The Stel Corona filly is out of Don’t Pass Bar, by A Regal Choice.
Ricardo Ramirez purchased the third high-seller He Too Looks Hot (Hip 352), a brother to Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1) winner He Looks Hot ($890,970) and RG1 winner Once Over ($166,0239), for $105,000. Edward C. Allred consigned the Walk Thru Fire colt out of stakes winner Look Her Over, by Check Him Out.

Edward C. Allred was the sale's leading consignor or agent with 46 head grossing $1,399,500. Burns Ranch, Agent had 45 head total $941,900 and Vista Equine Colorado, LLC, Agent for Vessels Stallion Farm, LLC sold 12 head for $253,900.
Mr Jess Perry led all sale sires of yearlings (by average with two or more sold) with four head averaging $64,750. Walk Thru Fire had 34 yearlings average $35,926 and First Down Dash had five yearling average $29,100. One Dashing Eagle was the leading first sale-crop sire (by average with two or more sold) with six head for $15,367.
First crop sire Favorite Cartel was the sales leading covering sire (by average with two or more sold) with three in-foal mares averaging $7,067. Hard Hitting had two in-foal mares average $7,000 and Corona Czech had two in-foal mares average $3,100.
