SAN ANTONIO, TX–JULY 27, 2024–The annual TQHA Yearling Sale wrapped up its two-day event Saturday at the Exposition Hall at The Freeman in San Antonio, highlighted by a record-breaking Ivory James colt that sold for $360,000.
Equestix Consulting LLC purchased Eyedios (Hip 366), a half-brother to three black-type winners, including Grade 1 winners Instygaytor and Shott Gun. Consigned by his breeder Bobby D. Cox, the brown colt is out of the stakes-place Mr Eye Opener mare Eye Popping.
Eyedois is the highest-selling TQHA yearling in history.
Tungsten Racing Partnership / AA Farms LLC paid $250,00 for the second high-seller, Kiss And Go (Hip 347), which was consigned by AA Farms LLC. The colt, out of CD Daddy's Home by Big Daddy Cartel, is a half-brother to Oklahoma Futurity(G2) winner Joose Boxx.
Saturday's third high-seller Ruse Ticle Knockout (Hip 355), a brother to champion As and Js was purchased for $210,000 by Ted Ruth. S & E Sales Prepping, Agent consigned the Apollitical Jess filly out of Adolph Tres Knockout by Tres Seis.
"I don’t have all the exact figures yet but every consigner I talked to said the sale was very good for them, and they got prices they expected or higher," TQHA Director of Racing Scott Sherwood said Saturday. I believe the $360,000 for Eyedios was an all-time sale record.
At the conclusion of the two-day sale, 274 Texas-bred yearlings were sold out of 384 offered for a gross of $7,262,700 and an average of $26.506. The gross was up 23% from the $5,926,700 for 267 head last year, and the average rose 19% compared to $22,197 in 2023. The median price fell 2% from $16,000 to $15,750.
"Everything went smoothly, and I want to thank Marty Powers and his entire crew, as well as all of the TQHA committee and board members and the other TQHA staff members, for helping make this a great sale," Sherwood said. "I would also like to thank all the buyers and consigners for making this a great sale."
Equestix Consulting LLC led all buyers with 10 purchases for $541,000. Tobasco Racing LLC had 9 for $301,000, and Maria Teresa Ugarte signed five tickets totaling $262,000.
