KINDER, LA–AUGUST 2, 2024–Led by a $163,000 Ivory James colt, the 48th annual LQHBA Yearling Sale began with increases across the board in its opening session today compared to the first day last year.
Leading buyer Jerry Deville, Jr., purchased the session-topping colt, Ivorys Cartel (Hip 200), for $163,000, in addition to two other purchases he had on Friday.
S & E Sales Prepping, LLC, Agent for Shawn Sigur, consigned the Ivory James colt. This is the first foal from Governors Cup Futurity(RG1) finalist Cartels Legacy by Favorite Cartel. The second dam is Golden State Juvenile winner Apollitical Legacy. This is the family for the four-time world champion sire FDD Dynasty and champion sire Apollitical Blood.
In the first session of the two-day sale, 192 lots were sold out of 230 offered, generating gross receipts of $3,540,500, a 3% increase compared to 2023's day 1. This year's day 1 average of $18,440 was a healthy 12% increase over last year's day one of $16,503. The median also rose 2% to $12,000 compared to $11,700 in last year's opening session.
"We are excited by buyer’s enthusiasm and support of Louisiana Bred racing," LQHBA Executive Director Bruce Salard said Friday evening. "Consignors benefited from increases in average and median prices!"
On Friday, 38 did not meet their reserve, an RNA rate of 15.6%. There were 13 "outs".
"The Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeding and Racing industry remains strong and resilient throughout all economic cycles," Salard said. "Buyers will find a yearling to fit their program and enter the Winner’s Circle with $22 Million in purse money and 1,200 races scheduled for 2025!"
Ranulfo Vidal Valdez and Brian Box purchased the second high-seller from session one, San Lorenzo Dashin (Hip 128), a daughter of first sale-crop sale sire San Lorenzo from the stakes winner and multiple graded stakes producer Full Moon Dasher by Dash Ta Fame. Consigned by Spring Hill Farms, the $110,000 filly is a half-sister to multiple RG1 winner Dashnunder Afullmoon.
Two yearlings tied for the third high-seller spot at $80,000 each.
MC Horse Sale Track & Supply LLC purchased Adored Louisiana (Hip 227) from Grant Farms, LLC. By champion sire The Louisiana Cartel, Adored Louisiana is out of the RG2 finalist Adore The Game by Game Patriot. The second dam is a sister to Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner and champion sire First To Flash.
Jaime Cardenas purchased Rf Fast Dash N Blood (Hip 236), a colt by champion sire Apollitical Blood, from Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Rogers Farm/Tim & Jennie Rogers. Out of the stakes-placed Heza Fast Dash mare Fast Dash N Deb, Rf Fast Dash N Blood is a half-brother to five black-type, including 2024 Lassie Futurity(RG2) winner Rf Fast Dash N Train.
Jerry Deville, Jr. led all buyers in the opening session with three purchases totaling $200,500. Jaime Cardenas had four yearlings for $190,000, and MC Horse Sale Track & Supply LLC paid $157,500 for six head.
Grant Farms LLC was the leading consignor and/or agent in session one, with 12 head for gross receipts of $325,500. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent sold nine head for $241,500 and RJ Ranch had six yearlings gross $182,500.
Ivory James was the leading sire (by average, two or more sold) on day 1 with an 11-head average of $39,273. Apollitical Blood had 9 for a $38,000 average, and first sale-crop sire San Lorenzo saw 8 yearlings with an average of $30,125.

NO ONLINE BIDDING will be accepted due to a one-minute video delay in the live stream.
All yearlings selling are accredited Louisiana-bred and are nominated to the $1,000,0000 LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1), which will be run at Evangeline Downs in December 2025.
Accredited Louisiana Bred 2-year-olds have more than $3.2 million in stakes races available during their juvenile year.
The LQHBA office in Alexandria will be closed until Tuesday, August 6, at 8:00 a.m. so employees can work the sale in Kinder.
