Big Daddy Cartel Filly Tops 2020 Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Yearling Sale

GUTHIRE, OK—AUGUST 27, 2020—Dix E Chick, a daughter of leading New Mexico sire Big Daddy Cartel, topped the 2020 Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred Sale today at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions in New Mexico, the All American Ruidoso Horse Sale company made a decision to combine their two annual August sales into one event to be held over three-days at the Lazy E Arena in Oklahoma.

The sale company reported 102, of the 115 New Mexico-bred yearlings offered, grossed $1,478,800. The first-day average fell to $14,498 compared to last year's record breaking $19,226. The median was off at $8,200 compared to $11,000 in 2019.

The sale topper, Hip 136, was purchased for $85,000 by Gene Bradley and Tod Bradley, from the MJ Farms, Agent for Benny Smith consignment. The gray filly is out of the multiple stakes producing Dean Miracle mare Maggies Miracle Lx. Named Dix E Chick, she is a half-sister to four blacktype including Zia Derby(RG2) winner Percy Jones.

MJ Farms, Agent also consigned the sale's second-highest seller, Hip 149, Rip Ride, a colt by multiple stakes sire Woodbridge. Even though the colt sold two from the day's end, there was brisk interest with LOS, LLC making the final bid of $77,000 to get a brother to restricted Grade 1 winner and last year's All American Futurity (G1) runner-up Mister Riptide. The sorrel colt is out of Ms Riptide by Ocean Runaway.

Joan Dale Hubbard paid $75,000 for the third-high seller Hip 77, Lil Riv, a colt by first-crop sale sire and champion A Revenant from the First Down Dash mare Natalie Dash. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent was the consignor.

The aforementioned LOS, LLC was the leading buyer with two yearlings totaling $142,000. Champion trainer Blane Wood signed the ticket on three head for $94,000 and Gene Bradley and Tod Bradley had the high-seller for $85,000.

Double LL Farms, Agent led all Consignors and Agents with 46 head grossing $487,600. MJ Farms, Agent had 18 yearlings bring $458,200 and Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent sold six yearlings totaling $120,500.

First-crop sale sire A Revenant led all yearling sires (by average, two or more sold) with two head averaging $44,250. Big Daddy Cartel had 27 yearlings average $22,767 on day 1 and Woodbridge saw five head average $22,540.

Day 2 of the 2020 Ruidoso Horse Sale will begin promptly at NOON (CDT) with the opening session of the Ruidoso Select Yearlings, Hips 152 thru 345. A select session of Foals-In-Utero will follow featuring Hips 346 thru 364. The closing session on Day 2 will feature the first of two sessions of the R.D. Hubbard Dispersal, Hips 365 thru 387.
