GRANTS PASS, OR—JULY 6, 2020—Oregon-bred Louisiana Bunny held off Relentless Six to break her maiden with a nose win in the $60,000 Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass Downs Monday evening. It was 1-˝ lengths back to Jess Ozzy who finished third.
Ridden by jockey Luis Gonzalez, Louisiana Bunny completed the 350 yards in :17.764 seconds, equaling a 90 speed index. The winner's purse was valued at $24,000.
Nick Lowe conditions the Oregon homebred daughter of champion sire The Louisiana Cartel for owner-breeder Lee Markholt. The brown filly, out of My Best Bunny Yet, by Best Advice, entered the final off a third-place effort in the June 17th trials when she posted the 9th fastest qualifying time.
Carmona purchased the brown gelding at the 2019 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale for $10,500. Relentless Six was bred in North Dakota by Eddie Cramer, Tom and Bill Maher from the Struttin To Beduino mare Struttin Sixs.
Jess Ozzy, a Montana-bred son of multiple stakes sire Jess My Moon, put in a solid effort under jockey Jose Figueroa to earn $6,600 for third. Treece Figueroa trains the sorrel gelding for owners Ralph Young and Sandy Battles. Bred by Young, from the Apollo (TB) mare Jungle Song, Jess Ozzy has banked $8,600 in three starts this season.
Skyywalker, Diva This, Empire Builder and L Bar D Rosie Lee completed the Firecracker Futurity field. Fastest qualifier Cm Dillingham Advice, Coopers Best Card and Dahock were all scratched.
