TULSA, OK—JULY 11, 2020—A pair of Grade 1 stakes winners posted impressive trial wins Saturday night at Fair Meadows to garner the top-two qualifying spots for the $70,200 Speedhorse Paint And Appaloosa Futurity.
Under jockey Rolando Raudales, Grade 1 $185,100 Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Horse Futurity winner Captain Capi bumped early before drawing off to win the fourth of five trials by 2-¼ lengths, posting the top qualifying time of :17.922 seconds, an 85 speed index into a 5 mph headwind.
Leading APHA trainer Dee Keener saddled the son of Quarter Horse sire Capo de Capi to his third win in four starts for owner-breeder Lloyd Garrison. The Oklahoma-bred geldin,g from the Judys Lineage mare Rosy Dial, has earned $77,012.
Power Fade was equally impressive in the second trial. Also ridden by Raudales and trained by Keener, the daughter of world champion Painted Turnpike won her trial by 2-¼ lengths with a clocking of :17.925 seconds, also an 85 speed index.
Out of the Fade To Fame mare Fade Shot, Power Fade races for owners J. Loyd Yother and J. Garvan Kelly. Bred by Kelly/Yearsley Equine LLC, the brown filly has won two of six starts this season including the Grade 1 $136,700 Speedhorse Graham Paint and Appaloosa Futurity at Remington Park in her last start. She has earned $59,056 this season.
Keener saddled half the futurity qualifiers including 3rd fastest Js Shezaquickchick, 7th fastest Wf Turnpike Candy and 8th fastest Wired For Royalty.
