Radar Leads Qualifiers After Crush the Curve Futurity Trials at Pocatello Downs

POCATELLO, ID—MAY 8, 2021—The 2021 meet at Pocatello kicked off on Saturday with six trials to the $44,050 Crush the Curve Futurity. The 300-yard final will be held on May 22.

A duel in the third trial produced the top two fastest qualifiers as Radar held off Better Believe Her by a neck in the fast race. Radar, with Eric Ayala up, covered the 300-yard distance in 15.744 and earned a 91 speed index as the fastest qualifier.

Better Believe Her posted a time of 15.766 as the second fastest qualifier and earned a 90 speed index.

Radar ($12.00) made his debut in Saturday’s trial. The A Revenant gelding is trained by Monty Arrossa for owner Vincente Treyes. He was bred in Idaho by Lee Rodgers and Raymond McGee, out of the Snowbound (TB) mare Snow In My Corona.

Post-time favorite Better Believe Her made her second start in the Pocatello trial; she broke her maiden in her debut, a trial for the Hadley/Giles Futurity at Weber in April.

Jesus Valenzuela was aboard Better Believe Her for trainer Riley Moosman and owner J.R. Stables. She was bred in Oklahoma by Walt and Pat Fletcher, by Valiant Hero and out of the Agouti mare Believers Gathering, a multiple stakes winner. Better Believe Her is a $23,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate.

Valenzuela also rode the third fastest qualifier and winner of the sixth and final trial, Miss Eye Sito.

Miss Eye Sito ($5.20) was a gate-to-wire winner of her trial with a time of 15.829 and an 88 speed index. She is bred and owned by Tom Peterson in Utah, out of Miss Eye Stocks, by Mr Eye Opener.

Miss Eye Sito broke her maiden in Saturday’s Crush the Curve trial. Like Better Believe Her, she debuted in a trial for the Hadley/Giles Futurity last month and finished second.

The Pappasito filly is trained by Riley Moosman, one of three qualifiers for the Moosman stable. Trainer Mark Hanson led with four qualifiers for the final.
