First Timber Dominates Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby Trials

First Timber Dominates Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby Trials

EDMONTON, ALB—JUNE 18, 2021—Canada's leading sire First Timber continued his domination of the Alberta Stallions Stakes series on Friday when he sired seven of the 10 qualifiers in two trails contested for the Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby at Century Mile Racetrack.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Century Mile Racetrack on Friday, July 2nd to vie for the winner's share of a $32,400(CAN) purse going 330 yards.

Grade 3 winner Eyesa Timber rolled to a 2-¾ lengths win in the first trial under jockey J.B. Botello. Racing for owner-breeder and trainer Wesley T. Oulton, the son of First Timber completed his task in :17.072 seconds to establish the fastest qualifying time.

Bred from the Mr Jess Perry mare Eyesa Perry, Eyesa Timber was making his first start since finishing fourth in the Los Alamitos Adequan Derby Challenge final in California on May 23rd. Winner of last year's Canada Cup Futurity(G3) and Alberta Bred Futurity, Eyesa Timber has won five of nine starts and earned $62,791.

Royale Runaway, another son of First Timber, cruised to a 1-½ length win in the second trial to set the second fastest time of :17.381 seconds. Trainer Brans Laczo saddled the bay gelding to his first career win in six starts. Alfredo Amador was riding.

Laczo owns Royale Runaway with Dakota Laczo. Issak Fehr bred the 3-year-old from the Hez Choice Property mare Sparkling Hy.
