TULSA, OK—JULY 24, 2021—Nash Ridge, a 2-year-old son of leading second-crop sire Jess Good Candy, got up at wire to defeat Foose Lodge by a neck in the $16,850 Cherokee Nation Stakes Saturday night at Fair Meadows Race Course.
Nash drifted in by stayed speedy under jockey Cody Smith to stop the timer in :17.863 seconds, a 91 speed index into a 6 mph headwind. It was the second win in five starts this season for the Oklahoma-bred gelding. The $10,284 winner's purse boosted his earnings to $100,313.
Trainer Stacey Capps conditions the homebred for owner-breeder Randy Davis. Out of the Tac It Like A Man mare Made To Dash, Nash Ridge was fourth in the restricted Grade 1 Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity last April.
Easy Jet Stakes (RG3) runner-up Pevs Jukebox finished three-quarters back to pick up $1,886 for third. Kenny Laymon conditions the FDD Dynasty gelding for owner Regina Laymon. Bred by Gordon Pevehouse, from the Okey Dokey Dale mare Ima Lazie Too, Pevs Jukebox has earned $34,670 off two wins in six starts. Justin Klaiber had the riding assignment.
One Fabulous Seis, Jf Storm Wagon, Peves Charley, Eye Cuervo and Bh Five completed the field. Cartel Dragon was scratched.
