EVANSTON, WY—AUGUST 1, 2021—Fastest qualifier Ocean Voyage used a late kick to get a nose in front of early leader Jh Titanium Alibi in the $35,750 Gary Waite Maiden Stakes (not black type) at Wyoming Downs. The son of champion and champion sire Ocean Runaway pocketed the $16,802 winner's purse for his effort.
Ridden by jockey Gerardo Vera, Ocean Voyage completed the 330 yards in :16.774 seconds, equaling a 94 speed index into an 8 mph headwind. It was the second consecutive win for the 3-year-old gelding who posted the fastest qualifying time from four trials for the Gary Waite contested on July 18th.
Daren Jones saddled the gray colt for owner-breeders Kent and Linda Jones. Bred in Idaho, from the Coastal Voyage (TB) mare Cassies Jet Voyage, Ocean Voyage has compiled a (12) 2-2-3 record and earned $28,427.
Still a maiden from seven starts, runner-up Jh Titanium Alibi just missed getting his first win but settled for $7,150 for second. Tyson Lusk had the riding call aboard the Jr Dynasty Mountain 3-year-old for owner-breeder's Jordan and Jessica Hadley. Also trained by Jordan, the brown gelding is out of Sh Alibi Dash by Dashair. He has earned $12,375.
Pistol Grip, a 3-year-old Maknmoves gelding, finished half-a-length back to earn $3,575 for third. Josh Taylor trains the Wyoming-bred out of Eyes In Heaven by Eyesastrawfly, for owner-breeder William C. Fox. Francisco Linan had the riding call.
Tricky Dasher, Finally Excited, Zoomin Moonflash, Flashin Ember, Quirksome and Makn Vital Moves completed the field.
