Mountains Are Blue Wins $8,600 Chippewa Open Quarter Horse Futurity

BELCOURT, ND – JUNE 25, 2022 – Mountains Are Blue broke his maiden in his second career start to win the $8,600 Chippewa Open Quarter Horse Futurity (not black-type) on Saturday afternoon at Chippewa Downs.

Mountains Are Blue ($2.80) was the post-time favorite after making his career debut the week prior.

Uriel Cervantes was aboard the Gone to the Mountain gelding for trainer Cole Wilson and owner Rodney Smith. Clyde Woerner bred Mountains Are Blue in North Dakota out of Easily a Gol, by Gol.

Mountains Are Blue covered the 300 yards in :16.780 and earned a 55 speed index in the gate to wire victory.

Second place finisher Trickn Wagon was a half-length behind the winner but finished over three lengths ahead of Rebs Iced Corona in third place.

Trickn Wagon debuted in the futurity for owner and trainer Bill Geditz; Giovany Estrada was in the irons. Trickn Wagon was bred in South Dakota by William Joe Geditz, by Fire Breathing Dragon and out of the Favorite Trick mare Trickarita.

Rebs Iced Corona brought experience to the field as he made his third career start on Saturday. Evan Herman had the riding call for trainer Bill Geditz and owner Amanda Haar.

John Bubel bred the colt in North Dakota by Corona B and out of Volcoms Reb, by Volcom.

Lizs Special Copy and jockey Ryan Morin completed the field for trainer Jeff Charbonneau and owner Steve Leonard. It was the career debut for the Bs Valiant Effort filly, who was bred in North Dakota by Joe Peltier, out of the Proudest Effort mare Lizs Effort.
